Julia Pott’s Magical Short Summer Camp Island Will Be a Cartoon Network Series

After a run at Sundance Film Festival, the animated short film Summer Camp Island is going to be a series at Cartoon Network. Created by Julia Pott whose credits include the network’s popular series Adventure Time, the series will follow Oscar and his best friend Hedgehog at their first summer camp.

Going to sleep-away camp for the first time can definitely be both exciting and scary, but what happens when you add magic, monsters, and sharks to that experience? Here’s the synopsis:

Away from their parents, the two friends must summon all their courage to navigate mysteries and wonders of this magical camp where camp counselors are witches, horses become unicorns, and monsters live under the bed. Not all camps offer the opportunity to swim with a talking shark in the swimming pool, crawl under the bed into a different universe, or make friends with the moon, but on Summer Camp Island, anything can happen.

“Summer Camp Island is a great example of the kind of creativity generated by our acclaimed studio shorts program,” said Rob Sorcher, Cartoon Network chief content officer. “We are all wanting to spend summers inside this timeless and magical world captured by Julia’s signature warmth and inventiveness.”

The short was created as part of Cartoon Network’s Shorts Program, and has won a number of awards in its festival tour from Ottawa Animation Festival, Fantastic Fest, AFI Fest, and Klik! Amsterdam Animation Festival. From the trailer above, the art looks amazing and adorable. Are you going to check out Summer Camp Island?
