Strangers Warned Her Against Moving in With Her Boyfriend. She Ignored Her Advice and Moved Him In Under Her Lease: ‘He Took Over Everything’
Some things are just not meant to be.
Love is blind, and Ashley (@ashllaw05) insisted on moving in with her ex under a lease. But while she got approved by landlords when applying for an apartment, her ex repeatedly wasn’t.
“I was really young when I met my ex. I had never lived alone on my own, I was still living with my mom,” Ashley told TikTok. When she applied for an apartment, she placed her ex’s name on the form with hers. The leasing officer told them to come back in a few days because they needed to conduct checks.
When she stopped by the leasing office to inquire whether she had been approved, Ashley said the leasing officer looked at her with dread. She was asked to take a seat. Her boyfriend didn’t accompany her at the time.
“Listen, I don’t know who this man is, but I just want to let you know that you got approved, but he didn’t,” the officer allegedly told her. Ashley was perplexed, but then the officer allegedly advised her to leave her boyfriend.
“I was love-bombed, right? So I wasn’t about to leave him alone,” Ashley said. Instead of leaving her then-boyfriend, she thought about looking for another apartment they could both live in. She found another apartment complex, put her boyfriend’s name down on another form, and hoped for the best. Moving into a new rental can come with several background checks, which is why some people would prefer to pay $1600 a month to live in a motel. When Ashley found another apartment to apply to, the property manager allegedly told her she was approved, but again, her boyfriend wasn’t.
“He cannot be here,” the manager supposedly said. Not wanting to leave her boyfriend, Ashley moved him in anyway, even though he couldn’t be under the lease.
Why wasn’t her boyfriend getting approved?
“When I tell you that man had a takeover spirit,” Ashley said. She moved the man into the apartment with the lease under her name despite the warnings she received. She continued, “He took over everything. He would be out on the balcony—he would smoke.” Ashley said that the leasing officer was right about her boyfriend.
“It was like, he wouldn’t adhere to whatever it was that I would say,” Ashley claimed. She further alleged that her boyfriend was abusive and became destructive around the apartment. She said, “He would punch holes in walls.” Her ex allegedly didn’t care that his destructive behavior would reflect poorly on her name as a renter. Furthermore, her ex also got dogs at her apartment, further contributing to the property damage.

“He was getting pit bulls and having them live inside our apartment. Mind you, I didn’t have him on the lease, nor a dog,” she explained. Ashley essentially risked her reputation to live with him. If her ex got caught taking the dog out, Ashley was worried that the property manager would confront her. The dog often chewed, peed, and pooped in the apartment. Before leaving, her ex suggested containing the dog in the bathroom.
“You know what happened? The dog ended up eating away at the door from the inside of the bathroom and out,” Ashley claimed. She further explained, “So, the bottom of the door had a huge hole because the dog ate it.” It’s a landlord’s nightmare, and that incident could get Ashley barred from renting this upscale yet overpriced Florida apartment.
“That studio apartment got destroyed because of me having a man that should not have been on the lease,” Ashley claimed. Although she claimed that she would never cover for a man this way again, she had to learn the hard way.
