‘Some serious political Judo skill’: Zohran Mamdani met Trump, and surprise — he still thinks the same way about him

People are still reeling over the Friday meetup between Donald Trump and Zohran Mamdani at the White House, which, for the lack of a more appropriate term, went pretty well. While Trump was almost head over heels in love with Mamdani and couldn’t stop himself from giggling, Mamdani was calm, composed, and definitely stood on business.

Many thought that Zohran Mamdani’s stance on Donald Trump would have changed following their meeting on Friday, despite them being at each other’s throats throughout the length of Mamdani’s mayoral election campaign, but they haven’t. While appearing in a recent episode of Meet the Press for ABC News, Mamdani insisted that he continues to hold the same political beliefs he said he did during the mayoral election race, including believing that Trump is a “fascist” and “despot”, and his actions are “undemocratic.” He, however, made a small addition to his comments about Trump, highlighting that “disagreement” in politics is natural, and it is “important” that people express those differences but remain united in their shared goals. He also stressed the need for being focused, noting that his trip to the Oval Office was not motivated by a need to “make a point” or “make a stand” but “to deliver for New Yorkers.

Zohran Mamdani’s views about Donald Trump remaining unchanged following his meeting were seen as a positive sign by the people who stood by him during the mayoral elections and continue to do so. This is because, more often than not, when politicians win an election, they flip on their promises and beliefs soon after, but not him. One person on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:

“Mamdani is such a pro. He does not back down from his past beliefs. He does not pivot. But he also does not attack Trump directly while also attacks him directly all at once. That is some serious political Judo skill.”

Another person wrote:

“This is the genius of Mamdani. Democracy is fundamentally about working with people you disagree with but that is lost in today’s toxic political env and he brings it back in a very simple way. For every question: he answers – does not dodge – then goes back to affordability.”

Many others had similar things to say about Zohran Mamdani.
