She went to the ER for cramps. By the end of the night, she was pushing a baby out
The cramps were apparently contractions.
Perri (@pwincessperri) went to the emergency room thinking she was experiencing severe period cramps. She had been bleeding all day, but after a long night, Perri came out with a baby in tow.
“I had period pains, period cramps, and I was bleeding all day,” Perri told TikTok. She had been bleeding since seven in the morning. Eventually, she looked at her boyfriend and told him she might need to go to the emergency room.
“I literally just think that I’m dying,” Perri recalled, describing the pain. Amidst the pain, she also felt the unexplained need to poop. By eleven, she and her boyfriend got to the ER, and she demanded pain medication. The hospital staff asked her if she was pregnant, and Perri said no. Up until then, she claimed she was spotting. Perri added that she had a history of irregular periods because she was under a lot of stress at work. On top of that, she had also just moved homes.
“It was normal for me to miss periods if I’m under extreme stress, which I was,” she said. At midnight, the doctor came in with the blood test results and informed Perri she was pregnant. She was stunned but started to suspect that she had mistaken cramps for contractions.
“I can’t be that far along,” she assumed. They had to wait for the medtech to come in and scan for the baby. After the tech left, she and her boyfriend briefly discussed their next steps. Thinking she wasn’t far along, they agreed to either terminate or put the baby up for adoption. But it was too late, as the doctor would later tell Perri that she was 35 weeks pregnant.
A surprise baby
The doctor checked her cervix, and she told Perri that the head of the baby was already out. Perri knew that if she pushed the baby out, she would start feeling relieved. However, the doctor informed her that their hospital didn’t have a NICU. Since their baby was a late preemie, the doctor advised them to go to the next hospital, which is only eight minutes away.
“I thought just waiting for all that took an eternity,” Perri said. She was in so much pain but agreed not to push while they were in the ambulance. During the ride to the next hospital, Perry said every bump on the road gave her a contraction.
“My whole body wanted to push him out. It’s like every 30 seconds is a contraction at this point,” she explained. But she was strapped to the gurney, and her legs were straight, preventing her from giving birth in the ambulance. While Perri was screaming in the ambulance, the nurse had already called the next hospital, telling everyone in the labor and delivery room to be ready. Miraculously, Perri reached the labor and delivery room intact.
Along the way, her boyfriend got lost during the drive to the next hospital. While some hospital staff searched for him, Perri pushed, unmedicated, and successfully gave birth to her baby boy. A couple of minutes later, her boyfriend got in the room, and they all cried. They decided to keep their baby, but they were largely unprepared. Perri said this was a case of a cryptic pregnancy, and she also showed photos leading up to the birth of her son.
During the fourth and fifth months, Perri had no visible bump on her belly. Even a week before giving birth, her body didn’t visibly change. While Perri came out of the hospital with a baby, this woman was given the fright of her life after a New York City clinic made her believe she was pregnant because of a faulty ultrasound.
