See Everyone’s Latest Horror Movie… ‘Obsession’ on Streaming Now

Obsession scene 'Nice Date'

Obsession has become the box office’s latest fixation. But for those who haven’t had an opportunity to hit the cinemas, streaming platforms are the best alternative for viewing the movie.

Recommended Videos

Everyone can now watch Obsession by either renting ($19.99) or buying ($24.99) a copy of the film on Amazon Prime Video. The movie is also accessible through Apple TV and Fandango at Home. Prices may vary depending on region.

Although Obsession is expected to drop on Peacock, it wouldn’t be until later in 2026. On the other hand, there’s no news of Netflix or Hulu having the intent to stream the movie.

The indie horror film by Focus Features broke box office records, grossing nearly $375 million dollars despite having just a budget of $750,000. There has been praise for the movie because of how it surpassed expectations and also for its unique premise. What’s more, the film had also paved the way for lead actors Michael Johnston and Inde Navarrette to break out into the movie scene.

A horrific plot

Bear (Michael Johnston) had a crush on his childhood best friend, Nikki (Inde Navarrette). In an attempt to win her over, Bear broke the ‘One Wish Willow’—a magical artifact that grants its user’s wishes. But there’s a catch. Once the wish is made, it’s granted and can’t be undone. It all seems like a TikTok love spell, but Bear got exactly what he wanted.

What could possibly go wrong? Spoiler alert: everything, and Bear would slowly realize that having a girl obsess over him isn’t the fantasy he’d thought it would be. As the old adage goes, be careful what you wish for.

Although the plot appears to be simplistic at first, those who’ve viewed the movie beg to differ. It goes much deeper than wish fulfillment gone wrong.

Social media hype to watch Obsession

Since its theatrical release, social media couldn’t get enough of the film. It initially piqued interest when a clip of Bear and Nikki’s diner scene went viral. Bear was about to confront Nikki about a secret. Instead of answering rationally, she smiled, started screaming “No,” and stood up. It disturbed the diner, but the clip also stirred curiosity online.

One social media user said, “All the people that didn’t watch this in theaters missed out badly.” Another X user wrote, “Watching Obsession in cinemas was such a privilege that I’d always be grateful that I did.” Even with some people online criticizing the movie’s lighting, the film has still been positively received on social media.

Even critics are enamored

But social media isn’t the only place obsessed with the horror film. Even critics have given the film a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Matt Orozco from Macabre Daily said that Obsession “is one of the rare films that not only lives up to its hype but exceeds it.”

Ricardo Rosado from Fotogramas wrote, “By speaking directly to the generation blamed for all of society’s woes, ‘Obsession’ manages to lure them back to theaters, presenting itself as a funny, grotesque, and genuinely unsettling piece.”

The Mary Sue reviewed the film out of SXSW, saying “Obsession is the perfect example of the old warning: ‘Be careful what you wish for’”.

Miguel Ángel Romero from Cinemanía reviewed, “Director and YouTuber Curry Barker has masterfully squeezed every last drop out of his $750,000 budget, with haunting and outstanding performances from Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston.”

There’s no better way to understand the hype than to watch Obsession.
