Another Marvel Superstar in Talks to Join Robert Pattinson’s Gotham

After years of being in the works (and being speculated on by fans), The Batman Part II is finally starting to become a reality… and it’s taking a much more marvelous shape than anyone might’ve expected.
On Tuesday, reports revealed that Sebastian Stan is in talks to join The Batman Part II in a mystery role. Stan is absolutely no stranger to the world of superhero franchises, having played James “Bucky” Barnes / Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2010’s Captain America: The First Avenger. Along the way, he has appeared in a number of the franchise’s ensemble films, co-led the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and most recently starred in Thunderbolts*. He is set to reprise his role in this December’s Avengers: Doomsday.
Beyond the MCU, Stan is also an Oscar nominee thanks to his performance in The Apprentice, and has received awards recognition for his work in I, Tonya and A Different Man.
While the deal has yet to be finalized (and we probably won’t know if it is until the film’s writer-director Matt Reeves posts a gif of Stan on social media), Stan is now the second major MCU alum to circle The Batman Part II. Scarlett Johansson, who portrayed Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow in the franchise for over a decade, has been in talks to join the film since December.
Again, there is no indication at this point of who Stan might be playing… but the speculation is sure to commence regardless. The most obvious theory might be Harvey Dent, the District Attorney of Gotham City who eventually transforms into the villainous Two-Face. While this would be far from Harvey’s first appearance in a major Batman movie, with Billy Dee Williams and Aaron Eckhart previously taking on the role in different iterations, it’s incredibly easy to imagine Stan taking the character into an entirely new context. Or who knows, maybe he’s playing another ally or adversary that hasn’t crossed anyone’s minds yet.
