Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Saturday Night Live is filmed in real time–but then there are the sketches that remind us that these cast members are only human, and every now and then they can’t help but get the giggles.

Such was the case last night when Ryan Gosling hosted. There were a couple bits where it seemed as though he had trouble keeping a straight face–which, frankly, made him all the more endearing–but the one that proved to be the toughest for even some of the cast to get through was the “Close Encounter” sketch. Cecily Strong and Gosling played two alien abductees who had had relatively pleasant experiences–while Kate McKinnon had a less-than-happy time. With Aidy Bryant and Bobby Moynihan playing NSA agents to round out the skit, things quickly took a giggly turn.

There were some other amusing parts in last night’s episode–the “deleted scene from The Wiz Live” was remarkably true to the original (and did they get those costumes on loan from the production?), but nothing beats a skit where everyone breaks.

What else did you enjoy about last night’s SNL?
