Russell Brand Confesses to Sleeping with a 16-Year-Old at 30

Russell Brand admits to sleeping with a 16-year-old to Megyn Kelly

Russell Brand, who has been accused of sexual assault, recently confessed to sleeping with a 16-year-old when he was 30. The shocking admission happened during an interview with Megyn Kelly.

Kelly and Brand talked about several conservative issues. But very early on in the conversation, the host spoke to Brand about the sexual assault allegations he faced sometime in 2023. She told him, “I’ll tell you upfront. I was angry when I saw that because they did it in such a compelling way, especially the stuff about the 16-year-old, that I was angry with you.”

Kelly was referring to the allegations put forth in Russell Brand: In Plain Sight, a 2023 documentary.

She added, “I said to the audience at the time, the conservative movement doesn’t need somebody like that. We love what he’s saying about COVID, but if this is a guy who’s sexually assaulting women and taking advantage of 16-year-olds, we need to move on without him.”

Although Kelly was skeptical about the documentary, she still felt anger against Brand because of the evidence presented in the film. But then, she maintained openness to Brand because she speculated that the British government is merely targeting him because of his right-wing beliefs.

Brand thanked Kelly for being gracious about hearing his side of the story. But what he said doesn’t imply political persecution.

“The plain fact of it is that in Europe and the United Kingdom, where I’m from, the age of consent is 16. And I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was thirty,” Brand confessed.

Russell Brand’s flimsy excuse for coercing women

“I was a lot younger, and I was an immature 30-year-old. Consensual sex with a variety of people when there is a strong power differential,” Brand said, recognizing the power dynamic aspect. He further confessed, “I think it is exploitative. I recognized that my sexual conduct in the past was selfish, and I did not apply enough consideration—barely, I suppose, really—to how that sex was affecting other people.”

To simplify Brand’s lengthy explanation, he essentially took responsibility for coercing women as a powerful figure. But in the same interview, he only admitted to having consensual sex with other women.

“I have to be careful of contempt of court because that’s a law in my country, where I can’t say anything publicly that might, in any way, influence a potential jury,” he said, while unironically wearing a huge cross.

The actor said he is in the process of “redeeming” himself from his past behavior—giant rosary and all that, if it weren’t obvious enough that Brand is trying to rebrand. But making choices that harm other people at 30 years old isn’t “immaturity”—it’s the deliberate abuse of power.

Needless to say, his admission angered many social media users.

One enraged social media user commented, “Isn’t it crazy that we live in a world where pedophiles do not fear admitting publicly that they are pedophiles?” Others pointed out the strangely convenient timing of Brand’s conversion to Christianity.

Sexual assault allegations against Brand

Brand’s admission to having slept with a 16-year-old coincides with a claim against him. The woman, who was only 16 at the time, accused Brand of being emotionally and sexually abusive. Her family also alleged that the woman was given “scripts” by Brand so that he could hide their bizarre relationship.

What part of this is consensual? This is for the jury to decide.
