Marvel Movie Roundup: Rocket Raccoon Details, Updates on Groot, Ant-Man & Wasp Casting

My Spidey Sense Is Tingling

Ok, don’t get yourselves too excited. We’ve got a collection of Marvel Universe stories for you. Some are fact, some are rumor, and some are WAIT, DID YOU JUST SAY WASP CASTING?

I’ll get what’s probably the most intriguing news out of the way first, even if it is the one with the least solid information. Putting aside the fact we don’t even know the plot of Ant-Man yet, SuperheroMovieNews.com is claiming not only knowledge of Janet van Dyne, aka The Wasp, being involved, but the actress in the running for the role. They write:

The new rumour that is going around says, that The Wasp WON’T feature in Ant-Man, but Janet Van Dyne WILL. The source says, “Janet will be a love interest and a major supporting character, we would see multiple references to her future as The Wasp throughout the film.” As if this wasn’t enough, the source later told me WHO Marvel and Edgar Wright had in their eyes for the role. It seems that Parks & Recreation star Rashida Jones is on top of Marvel’s shortlist for the role of ‘Janet Van Dyne’.

To our minds, an Ant-Man movie without Janet doesn’t make a whole lot of sense and introducing her there would be a great way to bring her into the larger universe. But this story remains highly-rumory.

Also on the Ant-Man front, Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige addressed the recent casting rumors with The Huffington Post:

Why does Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s name always come up when a new Marvel movie is being cast? This has happened three times now.
Well, sometimes it’s because we are legitimately talking, and sometimes it’s just because he’s a prominent actor out there now. And lots of rumors surround prominent actors.

Paul Rudd’s name is out there for Ant-Man. That would be fun if it’s true. I have no idea if it’s true.
Well, nothing is true yet. I like Paul Rudd, too.

Feige also talked about Vin Diesel’s Groot and the fact that Marvel still hasn’t actually announced his casting in Guardians of the Galaxy. “I think it’s close,” he told them. “I think it’s close to being official for the Groot character. But, not 100 percent yet.” Ugggh, come on, the movie has already wrapped filming!

Finally, GotG’s Chris Pratt recently spoke to Access Hollywood about Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) who he says might be the best character in the movie.

“You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature,” he said. ”[He’s been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character]…You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role.”
