Republicans announce a made-up award, and the first recipient is, no surprises here: Donald Trump

You can always rely on Republicans to go above and beyond their limits to appease Donald Trump, and a recent incident proves that. On March 25, 2026, several news outlets reported that Republicans had created a fake award called the America First Award (very on brand for them), similar to the 2025 FIFA Peace Prize, and awarded it to none other than Donald Trump.

As videos of the event circulated online, they showed Speaker Mike Johnson at the annual National Republican Congressional Committee fundraiser on Wednesday night in Washington, D.C., introducing Donald Trump to the stage and saying that he and others in the Republican Party wanted to present him with a token of appreciation for his contributions and his leadership as President of the United States.

Donald Trump was awarded the first America-First Award

On Wednesday, Donald Trump received the first America-First Award from Speaker Mike Johnson and several other Republicans. Johnson announced the award on stage before Trump arrived and said that he would be the first recipient because he is deserving.

Here’s what he said about the award and Trump, “… We want to honor him in some small way, some token of our appreciation for his leadership. And so, tonight, we have created a new award. We’re going to do something we’ve never done before. We’re going to honor him with a new award that we’ll present annually from this point forward.” Highlighting how Trump was the obvious choice for being the first one to receive the award, Johnson said, “…He is the suitable and fitting recipient of the first-ever America First Award. We could think of no better title for what that is. That’s this beautiful golden statue here. Appropriate for the new golden era in America.”

In 2025, Donald Trump received the FIFA Peace Prize

In case anyone has forgotten, Donald Trump was awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize by FIFA President Gianni Infantino last December. He also received a medal along with the trophy for his efforts in promoting and maintaining peace worldwide. The award came after Trump had spent weeks complaining about not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in ending “eight wars.”

Eventually, Trump did receive a Nobel Peace Prize, but it was a second-hand one. Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corinna Machado decided to give her Nobel Peace Prize, which she earned for “her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” to Trump. At the time, her reason for giving him the award was that it was “a recognition for his unique commitment “to Venezuela’s “freedom”.
