Monstress #4 w: Marjorie Liu a: Sana Takeda p: Image Comics If you haven't been reading Monstress , you've been missing out on one of the most engaging, inventive stories out there right now. Seriously, if you're reading Saga , this would make a great, more feminine, more magical counterpoint to that series. The description for this week reads "Maika's world becomes even more dangerous." That's saying something! Black Canary #9 w: Brendan Fletcher a: Annie Wu p: DC Comics As you can tell from the cover art (and if you've been following the story), this issue features another one of Gotham's fiercest fighters: Batgirl! Ah, Batgirl and Black Canary, together again. Captain Marvel #3 w: Tara Butters a: Kris Anka p: Marvel Comics All signs point to Alpha Flight dealing with a traitor among them, but how to suss out who it might be? To make matters worse, Carol's powers have been acting up lately. Gotham Academy Vol 2: Calamity TP w: Becky Cloonan a: Karl Kerschl p: DC Comics One of our favorite series has its second trade paperback coming out this week, and if you love the DCU as well as stuff like Harry Potter, you should definitely use this opportunity to catch up on this awesome story! Lumberjanes #24 w: Shannon Watters, Kat Leyh a: Carey Pietsch p: BOOM! Studios This issue marks the end of another arc, and it's going to be a fun ending. Lumberjanes always finds a way to keep the excitement going, so don't miss this issue! Mystery Girl #4 w: Paul Tobin a: Alberto Alburquerque p: Dark Horse Comics Trine's still stuck in the Siberian wasteland, but not for long – her mystery-solving prowess and mysterious psychic powers will soon get her out of that jam and back to London. Jonesy #2 w: Sam Humphries a: Caitlin Rose Boyle p: BOOM! Studios From the moment we heard about this title, we knew we were in love! In its second issue, find out what happens when Jonesy's plan to make two teens from opposite sides of the social strata fall in love backfires spectacularly! ODY-C #10 w: Matt Fraction a: Christian Ward p: Image Comics There's a giant space whale in this one. If you needed more convincing beyond that: these issues of ODY-C are always incredibly gorgeous. This version of Homer's Odyssey touches on so many intriguing viewpoints. Steven Universe and the Crystal Gems #1 w: Josceline Fenton a: Chrystin Garland p: BOOM! Studios The Steven Universe comic book series returns with another four-issue mini-series of more adventures in Beach City. This time, our heroes go on a camping trip together and tell spooky stories around the campfire. Spooky stories are fun … unless they turn out to be true, as so often happens in Beach City! Poison Ivy: Cycle of Life and Death #3 w: Amy Chu a: Clay Mann p: DC Comics Dr. Pamela Isley, a.k.a. Poison Ivy, continues to navigate the ongoing police investigation of the mysterious murders happening in her lab – but now she has to take care of some newly hatched sporelings as well.
