Philadelphia woman picks up an Uber Eats order at 9pm, then the customer asks her to deliver it somewhere an hour away: ‘Go play with somebody else’

An hour away is outrageous.

A Philadelphia-based Uber Eats driver reportedly decided to cancel an evening drop-off after a customer attempted to change the delivery address to a location an hour away.

TikTok creator @returnofthepooh shared the incident in a TikTok storytime, explaining that she frequently worked delivery shifts before and after her restaurant job. Around 8:00 or 9:00 PM one day, she reportedly picked up a substantial takeout order from an Asian restaurant in Center City Philadelphia.

Immediately after retrieving the items, the customer allegedly sent a message claiming they had entered the wrong destination in the app. They requested that she bring the food to a new address instead, offering the promise of a larger tip upon arrival.

The customer requested a long-distance reroute on Uber Eats

Upon entering the customer’s updated address into her navigation system, the creator claimed that the new route required an hour of travel. In contrast, the original drop-off point had reportedly been estimated at roughly 15 to 30 minutes away.

“Why would I deliver that an hour away when I was supposed to go to the first address, which was like 15–30 minutes away? Plus, I’m driving around in Philly at night. By the time I was gonna get there, it’s gonna be 11:00 PM or 12:00 AM in the morning. I’m like, they better go play with somebody else. “

The creator was also skeptical that the promised tip would materialize, explaining that delivery workers frequently encounter customers who do not follow through on verbal tip guarantees. So, she decided against the extended trip and contacted in-app support to report the situation.

Support instructed the courier to dispose of the order

Standard delivery app guidelines typically prohibit forcing drivers to travel to unauthorized, out-of-range addresses. While delivery platforms allow customers to contact couriers regarding address errors, drivers retain the option to decline requests that fall outside the parameters of the original order.

In @returnofthepooh’s situation, Uber Eats support reportedly instructed her to abandon the delivery and dispose of the food. But the creator was unwilling to throw away an untouched order. “That’s when I knew that I could keep the food, because once you contact customer service, they gonna say ‘dispose it.’ I’m like, I’m not disposing of all this food, why would I want to waste food?”

So, she eventually decided to bring the meal home to share with her partner. She revealed that the order contained approximately five separate entrees with sides from a local Japanese or Korean restaurant. At the end, setting boundaries around late-night safety turned an inconvenient route into dinner at home for the creator.
