Orange County Comedian Tells Social Media How His Dad Prepared Him for Bullies: ‘I’m a Verbal Assassin’

The world can be a harsh place, and for children who were born different, reality oftentimes becomes difficult to navigate. Comedian Brad Williams came on to the George Janko Show to share how his unique upbringing helped prepare him for his hostile peers and his booming stand-up career.
“My dad prepared me for the world that is, not the world that should be,” Williams explained. In an ideal world, everyone is tolerant, and people treat those who are different from them without prejudice with respect.
“He knew kids would make fun of me,” Williams continued, telling everyone about his father’s philosophy. He said that his dad would “bully” him, but in a supportive way. Williams was born with achondroplasia, making him shorter than the average human.
The best way to raise a comedian
“My dad would make fun of me, but then say, ‘Alright, hit me back, hit me back. This is what’s going to happen in the schoolyard.’ We would literally write comebacks together,” Williams recalled. It wasn’t mean-spirited roasting from a parent. Although his dad’s methods were unusual, they toughened Williams up and sharpened his wits.
“Your dad made you a comic,” Janko, the host, commented.
“Exactly! It’s all connected,” Williams replied. He further explained that because his father would help him write comebacks, he came to school prepared. Schoolyard bullies didn’t shatter his worldview. He recalled the first time he roasted another child so hard that Williams was sent to the principal’s office by the end of it.
“I’m a verbal assassin, brother,” he joked as he recalled the scene. A kid his age came up to Williams and plainly insulted his height. But what the child didn’t know was that William was armed with military-grade comebacks.
Dissed someone so hard, he was sent to the principal’s office
“Haha, you’re little,” the bully said.
“Haha, your mother doesn’t live with your dad anymore,” Williams told his peer. It was a jaw-dropping response from a child. Shawna Della-Ricca, the co-host of the show, couldn’t believe that a kindergardeneer would say such a thing. Janko was also hollering, laughing himself off the couch.
“In Kindergarden?” Della-Ricca confirmed.
“I grew up in Orange County,” Williams said. He continued, “I grew up in Orange County, California. That’s about a 72% chance of getting that one right.” Apparently, he was unsure if his peer’s parents were divorced. Williams took his chance on such a personal and hard diss, and somehow, he still got it right. The kid ran away crying after the incident, and Williams was sent to the principal’s office.
The principal called Williams’ dad at work, telling him about what his son told a peer. Williams said that what his dad said next is something he’ll never forget.
“Did my son start it, or did he finish it?” His father said.
“Well, technically, he finished it,” the principal replied.
“I got no problems,” Williams’ dad said, hanging up on the principal. His father raised a verbal assassin, and it seemed to be mission accomplished, as his son just killed it in the schoolyard.
Upon hearing the story on TikTok, social media commenters started praising Williams’ father for his parenting, calling his father “solid” and a “W” dad. Others described his dad as “his biggest fan.” While his father’s parenting may be uncanny, his father did what he needed to prepare his son for an unkind world.
