No, Batman Will Not Be Showing Up At Occupy Wall Street

Never Mind

Earlier this week, we pointed out that Batman was, in fact, part of the “1%,” but supported the Occupy Wall Street movement. But for a little while there, it looked like the closest thing we got to Batman IRL — in the form of Christian Bale — was going to be coming to Zuccotti Park to shoot Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises. In what is probably not surprising news, however, the movie will not be shooting by Zuccotti Park and Batman will not be showing up to support Occupy Wall Street in person or looking to use protesters as extras. So, if there was a guy with an amazing Batman costume — or a not-that-amazing Batman costume — who wanted to show up at OWS and say, “I am the 1%” in a gravelly voice, he can do that now, because Bale will be otherwise, ahem, occupied.

A few weeks ago, a casting call appeared on Backstage, a resource for actors and others in the entertainment industry, looking for background performers for a production called “Magnus Rex” — which we now know is the code name for The Dark Knight Rises. While there is no indication of the location of the shoot in the casting call, rumors started flying that the shoot would actually take place by the OWS protests. Someone (who was not named, so it must have been Batman) told the LA Times that “cast members have been told the shoot could include scenes shot at the Occupy Wall Street protests,” and that while the protestors would not be part of the actual plot, “[Nolan would] simply be using the protests as a backdrop or a stand-in for something that already exists in the film.”

But now, a Warner Bros. representative has stated that TDKR will not be shooting near Zuccotti Park. However, it will still be shooting in New York City from October 29 until November 11, we just don’t know exactly where. If Batman shows up in the office of The Mary Sue, you can be sure we’ll tell you about it, right after we finish hanging out with the Nolan crew.

Editor’s Note: What? Of course we wouldn’t tell anybody, we would keep all secrets required of us by Nolan cast and crew so they should totally visit us please visit thank you.
