New York City Woman Dropped Her Son Off to Camp in a White Summer Dress. People Started Giving Her Looks 'Does Something Look Off to You

The last thing parents think about when dropping their kids off at school is their clothes. But when Sarah Bentley (@sarahstrimelbentley) wore a $25 summer dress before dropping her son off to camp, she didn’t expect to get stares from the streets. Her low-effort outfit turned out to be more scandalous than she thought.

“I left the house this morning thinking that I was just putting on an easy shift dress that I bought at a flea market in the Hamptons since last summer for $25,” Bentley told TikTok. But before leaving the house, she decided to ask her husband for a second opinion.

“Honey, does this look dowdy?” she asked him at the time. Her husband’s eyes lit up.

“No, honey. Actually, it looks so chic,” he told her. Bentley said her husband gave her a “come hither” stare—nevertheless, that didn’t alarm her. If anything, it only meant that she looked good in her white dress. However, she was a bit confused because the dress is a long-sleeved, floor-length dress. By all means, it seemed to be the epitome of modesty.

“Upon walking, the half-hour walk from our apartment to camp, people begin smiling at me. Almost like it’s the best day they’ve ever had,” Bentley recalled. But again, she brushed it off. She thought people were still glowing from the Knicks’ victory and the parade that ensued. Perhaps people in the city were still fired up for the same reasons.

People were staring at her “dowdy” summer dress

But then, Bentley noticed their smiles getting wider. People were also giving Bentley a longer stare. It was odd, she thought—but it could also be that perhaps they found her son cute. She rationalized these thoughts until she got to summer camp and dropped her son off.

“Hey, can you look at me? Does something look off to you?” Bentley asked one of the moms at summer camp.

“Sweetie, your dress is completely see-through,” the woman told her. Bentley panned the camera to herself and showed exactly how see-through the summer dress is.

The outline of her body can be seen through the fabric, even indoors with dimmer lighting. But Bentley walked around the city during daylight, which would have rendered her summer dress nearly see-through. As a commenter described it, Bentley’s dress left nothing to the imagination.

Social media was not prepared to see the dress. Bentley said that it was see-through, but it looked sheer against the light. If a cookie-cutter could be made of Bentley’s outline, it could be done with this dress on.

One TikTok commenter wrote, “I was not prepared for the lower lip silhouette.”

Another person joked, “And I’m sure it was even worse in bright sunlight.”

But others gave compliments and words of support to Bentley.

Someone said, “Okay, but is the body SO tea? That would’ve made my day too.”

Another commenter wrote, “Well, on the bright side, everyone confirmed you look amazing.”

“And here’s the moral of the story: I highly suggest that if you need some pep in your step and you need some reminder that there is good, positive energy in this world, wear a see-through dress to camp drop-off,” Bentley said, despite her chaotic experience. Perhaps the real saving grace here was that people chose to say nothing rude or uncomfortable to Bentley while she was traipsing around the city in her dubious white dress.
