Miami’s 30-year Republican streak just met its end, and Sleepy Don is gonna hate it

Donald Trump can brag about his approval ratings going up as much as he wants, but the ground reality tells a different story. The truth is that the Trump administration is not as popular as its leader-in-chief thinks. It’s actually worse, far worse than he could ever imagine.
Donald Trump’s delusions about his administration and the Republican Party achieving great success in his second term as the president of the United States were once again proved wrong. He hadn’t even recovered from the back-to-back Republican defeats and Democrat wins during the major elections in the last couple of weeks, and now he has more things to worry about. Well, that must be stressful!
On December 9, 2025, Democrat Eileen Higgins was elected as the mayor of Miami, defeating fellow Republican nominee Emilio González, who had garnered significant support and endorsements from Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Higgins’ victory was historic as she ended nearly 30 years of Republican dominance to become the first Democratic mayor of Miami. Not only that, but she also became the first female mayor of the city, making her win doubly historic.
After her win, Eileen Higgins celebrated with the community at the Miami Women’s Club, where she engaged with her supporters, took photos, and spoke to reporters to share her thoughts. In an interview with WPLG Local 10, she expressed her joy at being the first woman mayor of Miami, stating that it was long overdue for a city founded by a woman. She also mentioned that she hopes her victory can inspire women to realise what they can achieve with commitment, emphasising that with dedication towards education and sincerity towards their job, they can become a “mayor,” “engineer,” or anything else they aspire to be.
As clips of Eileen Higgins’s interaction with the news outlet began circulating on social media, many people grew curious about Donald Trump’s potential reaction to her victory. Many people started scouring Truth Social to see if Trump had written something. However, as of now, Trump has not spoken about the event, but during a recent round table, Trump mentioned that he wasn’t overly concerned (well, he definitely should have been, if you ask me) about the election results, despite wanting to win because success in the midterms was “important.” He also pointed out that Republican supporters expect them to win, and thus they should aim for victory in the elections, noting that it would reflect positively on their reputation.
