Massachusetts woman met a man on a dating app. Then he locks her up for 6 weeks, abused her, and he’s not sorry about it
Behind one closed door, weeks were passing
Meeting someone through a dating app requires trust. A profile and a few messages can only reveal so much about a stranger. For one Massachusetts woman, prosecutors allege that meeting her match took a terrifying turn.
Being controlled by someone you trusted can quickly become dangerous, especially when leaving is no longer your decision. In this case, days allegedly turned into weeks. It took an unexpected visitor to discover what was happening.
According to PEOPLE, 29-year-old Jordende Pierre allegedly held a woman he met on Tinder captive for six weeks in a Malden, Massachusetts, home. Prosecutors claim Pierre sexually abused the woman and trafficked her to other men. A landlord’s unexpected visit eventually exposed what was allegedly happening.
Things were worse than anyone knew
The woman was discovered on Sept. 20 after property owner Qing Sun went to the Summer Street home to check on a water leak. Sun told NBC10 Boston that other tenants tried to stop her from accessing certain rooms in the house.
When Sun eventually reached the attic, she found the woman in poor condition. Middlesex County Assistant District Attorney Jacob McCrindle told the court that she “clearly had not eaten” and was dirty. “She was living essentially in squalor in this attic area,” he added.
The woman was reportedly naked when she was found. Authorities also discovered a five-gallon bucket filled with urine nearby. However, prosecutors allege the condition of the attic was only part of what had kept her there.
Leaving on her own was allegedly not an option. McCrindle claimed Pierre had removed the handle from the attic door, preventing the woman from opening it and getting out. Authorities believe she had been held inside the home for approximately six weeks.
Sun also had no idea Pierre was staying at the property. She told NBC10 Boston, “I’m not aware this guy is living there. And I’m not aware anybody living in the attic. Nobody’s supposed to live there.”
Prosecutors allege the situation began after Pierre met the woman on Tinder. He allegedly picked her up from a rehabilitation facility and brought her to the Malden property. McCrindle told the court that Pierre then supplied her with drugs.
Authorities claim Pierre later began trafficking the woman to pay for those drugs. Other men allegedly came and went from the property to have sex with her. Prosecutors contend that Pierre took the money they paid.
The landlord’s arrival ultimately gave the woman a way out. Sun had gone to the property for a routine maintenance problem without knowing anyone was being kept upstairs. What she allegedly discovered instead prompted police involvement and an investigation into Pierre.
Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest on Sept. 23. The following day, members of the U.S. Marshals Massachusetts Fugitive Task Force arrested Pierre.
He now faces charges of trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, kidnapping, and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or older. Pierre pleaded not guilty during his Sept. 25 arraignment. A judge ordered him held without bail. The woman has not been publicly identified.
