Maryland woman refuses to give up her gym machine before she’s finished. Then a man launches into an alleged racist tirade: ‘This ain’t your country!’

Too much weight to carry

A trip to the gym shouldn’t turn into an argument over who belongs in America. But one Maryland woman found herself facing that question during what should have been an ordinary workout. All she wanted was to finish exercising.

The situation quickly became uncomfortable. Women have faced confrontations while working out before, but this time, the man’s anger allegedly went beyond gym etiquette. His words had little to do with fitness.

According to TikTok creator Samrawit Hailu (@samrawit.hailu5), a man became aggressive after she refused to give up an exercise machine she was still using. He allegedly launched into a racist tirade, telling her, “This ain’t your country,” while repeatedly challenging her to call the police. The confrontation was captured on video, which has attracted around 1 million views.

Things were getting out of hand

The video shows the man arguing with Hailu as she repeatedly asks him to keep his distance. At one point, he declares, “This is my f*cking country,” before insisting, “This ain’t your country.”

Hailu immediately pushes back. “This is not just your country. It’s my country too,” she responds. Despite her objections, the man continues telling her to leave.

The woman also makes clear that his behavior is interfering with her exercise. “You can’t stare me down while I’m workout you have to step away,” she tells him. She adds, “You are getting too close to me.”

Rather than backing away, the man repeatedly tells her to call the police. Hailu continues asking him to step aside so she can use the equipment without being confronted.

The exchange left viewers questioning why a disagreement over an exercise machine had turned into an argument about nationality. Nothing in the confrontation suggested that the man had any authority to decide who belonged in the gym, much less the country.

Several viewers were particularly disturbed by the apparent lack of intervention. Women have raised concerns about harassment at gyms before, and commenters wanted to know why nobody appeared to be helping Hailu.

“the scariest thing is that nobody says anything,” one person wrote. “Why is nobody helping????” another asked. A third commented, “No man will talk to a woman like that in my presence.”

Others wanted the gym to take responsibility. “Please name the gym so we can let them know this is not okay,” one viewer urged. Someone else questioned, “Did you report him to management.”

The man’s remarks about America also drew criticism. “You are not Native American darling!” one person wrote. Another added, “wow did he just say that. he forgot the Indians were here first lol.”

Some commenters went further, demanding consequences for the facility itself. One viewer insisted that “the staff of this gym will need to be fired.”

The criticism eventually reached beyond TikTok. Supporters began contacting the gym through phone calls and emails, urging management to address the incident. Hailu later shared an update revealing that their efforts had apparently worked.

“Thank you guys! I have no words to express how grateful for everyone supporting me calling the gym emailing them. I feel the LOVE,” she wrote.

She then disclosed that a manager had contacted her with news about the man. “I just received a call from one of the managers at the gym and he informed me that they terminated his membership!! You ALl did that! Thank you!!!”

Hailu credited the people who supported her for the reported decision. What began as a confrontation over gym equipment had resulted in public criticism of the man’s conduct and the facility’s response.
