Man is shopping when a woman pulls him into the office to discuss his performance. Then she sees him in the aisles 5 minutes later: ‘Oh, my god!’

Mistaken Identity

Imagine going on your routine grocery run and suddenly being dragged into an office for an “evaluation.” That is exactly what one man says happened to him. Shepherd Grim (shepherd.grim) said in a TikTok video that a woman took him to the office and started assessing his performance. The catch? He did not work there. Never did.

“Like, it’s not my name or anything on there. And I just, like, sit down, right? I just sit down, and I’m like, okay. It’s like, you’re meeting expectations, but we wanna push you to, uh, do a little bit more. I’m like, ‘I got it’, like, the whole thing,” Grim said, narrating everything that happened inside the office. Then he said he went out and started shopping again when the lady spotted him and asked what he was doing, still believing he worked there.

“Within about, like, five minutes, she, like, she sees me again, like, ‘What are you doing?’ I’mlike, ‘Oh, I’m shopping.’ And she’s like, ‘On the clock?’ I’m like, ‘No, I don’t work here,’ Grim said, recounting their conversation. Then the realization finally settled in. Speaking about the moment it happened, Grim said, “And then she was like, ‘Oh, my god!’”

“Comedy gold!”

You don’t hear a story as unique and entertaining as Grim’s every day. People in the comments seemed to understand, as some of their responses showed. One user wrote, “The fact that you’re there like ever day makes this so funny. You’re like the George Castanza of your neighborhood grocery store.” Another said, “Comedy gold! I love it when someone is given an opportunity and they just run with it!”

A few people shared somewhat similar experiences. One individual commented, “I joined a morning huddle at Target to let them know their shopping carts were filthy. I told them that if I wanted the Walmart experience, I would shop there instead. The manager stared at me with her mouth wide open, not knowing what to do.” Another stated, “Last week, I got my performance review at the register, and then I was instructed to unload a delivery truck. I’m done with using the self-checkout.”

Some people also shared what they would have done in Grim’s place. Some took a more light-hearted approach, while others did not. One person said, “I would have been like, my evaluation for you is that you aren’t a very perceptive or caring boss, and I’m worried about the standards of work for this store if I met expectations when I’m not employed here.” Another wrote, “If they bring me to the back like that and start berating me, I would sue.”

One commenter notably speculated about what might happen if Grim were a secret shopper. A secret shopper, also known as a mystery shopper, is “an individual who is hired to evaluate the quality of customer service, products, and overall customer experience given by a company,” according to Service Evaluation Concepts. These people are employed by mystery shopping agencies or market research organizations. They wrote, “The only thing that would be funnier is if you were a secret shopper.”

Thankfully for the employee, Grim wasn’t a secret shopper; at least his profile doesn’t reveal it.
