Michael Wysolovski, a 33-year-old man living in Georgia who kept a teenage girl in captivity in his home and took advantage of her for a year, has finally been sentenced for his crime: almost 10 years probation and 8 months in jail. I’m sorry, but … what? You literally keep a girl in your home, against her will, and sexually assault her, and … you, essentially, get a slap on your wrist?
What’s even worse about this is that the 8 months in jail were the 8 months he spent leading up to his trail. So, technically, he’s just on probation now and has already served all of his jail time. Keeping a teenage girl you met online, against her will, in your home is apparently okay in Georgia!
Wysolovski met the then-15-year-old girl on a forum for anorexia and convinced her to leave her home and come live with him. Giving a powerful statement, she expressed in court that he made her feel as if she’d be unloved if she gained any kind of weight and that he was her choice. So, she trusted and believed him.
According to Fempositive, the girl’s father reported that she now has back problems because she was forced to stay in a dog cage by Wysolovski. Again, just want to reiterate that this man is not going to jail for any extended period of time for this.
He legitimately put a teenage girl in a cage, left her malnourished, and took advantage of her, and the verdict is that Wysolovski, who pleaded guilty, will just have the remaining 9 years and 4 months of his 10-year sentence be served as probation. It was also made clear in the court case, according to Rolling Stone, that Wysolovski forced the young teen into nonconsensual sex.
“Wysolovski and the girl engaged in a relationship that evolved from consensual BDSM sex acts, which simulated nonconsensual sex, into actual nonconsensual sex, which involved ‘excessive force.'”
What truly boils my blood is that this means that this man, who is walking around and functioning in our world who, is, essentially, getting away with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old. The only reason he wasn’t charged with child molestation is because, in Georgia, the age of consent is 16 years old, which is the age she was by the time he drove to Charlotte, North Carolina to pick her up and bring her to his home.
So, at the end of the day, this awful man’s freedom was clearly valued over a young girl’s own wellbeing by the legal system that was supposed to protect her, even after he admitted his crimes.
