And 2014 continues to be terrible.

Multiple outlets, including Deadline and the Associated Press, are reporting that Melissa Rivers has released a statement saying her mother, comedian Joan Rivers, has passed away.

Melissa’s statement reads as follows:

“It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother. Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated. My mother’s greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.”

Joan was rushed to the hospital last week after a sudden cardiac arrest during a routine vocal chord check; she had been in an induced coma since the weekend. Sure, Joan was by no means the nicest person during her stint on Fashion Police—but she was a talented comedian for over half a century, came up as a female comedian during a time where that wasn’t always the easiest thing, and has been an inspiration to many female comedians since.

2014, you gotta stop. You just gotta stop with everything.
