‘It’s the only fair thing to do’: Donald Trump’s war on Iran sparks outrage online as ‘#SendBarron’ trends on X

A majority of Americans are unhappy with Donald Trump’s recent activities, especially his increasing involvement in fighting foreign wars. On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel carried out joint military strikes in Iran, resulting in the deaths of several people, including the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. While Khamenei’s death was celebrated in Iran due to his dictatorial and patriarchal tendencies, Americans weren’t too pleased about it because they believed that the war in Iran was not the US’s to fight.
Making matters worse, it was revealed that the US and Israel bombed a school in Iran, causing the deaths of hundreds of children. Trump never addressed this, nor did any of his Republican allies. He briefly spoke about the war in Iran and the US lives lost in it at the recently held Medal of Honour ceremony, but he did so from a position of extreme privilege and quickly moved on to discuss much more important matters: his under-construction ballroom and the drapes he had chosen.
SendBarron trends on X as Trump continues to wage war in Iran
As mentioned earlier, many Americans are raising concerns about the US allying with Israel and attacking Iran. They are even more upset with Trump for risking US soldiers’ lives in foreign wars and not respecting them even after their deaths.
In response, they are trending #SendBarron on X, urging Trump to enlist his youngest son, Barron Trump, in the military and send him to fight in Iran. While the joke is that he should be sent because he’s capable, the reality is that people want Trump’s son and Trump himself to experience the same tension and circumstances that US soldiers are facing.
The #SendBarron has its origins in a page started by a former South Park writer
The #SendBarron hashtag on X originated from a satirical website called DraftBarronTrump.com, created by comedian and former South Park writer Toby Morton. It’s a parody website promoting Barron Trump as the “right one” to be drafted into the military. The site mentions, “America is strong because its leaders are strong. President Trump proves that every day. Naturally, his son Barron is more than ready to defend the country his father so boldly commands. Service is honor. Strength is inherited. Dog Bless Barron.”
The site features several pictures of Barron, including some with his father, as well as photos of Trump alone, mostly sleeping. It also has testimonials from Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr., and Eric Trump. One from Donald Trump reads, “People come up to me, with tears in their eyes, and they say, ‘Sir, you’re the strongest. Send Barron off to war’ I’ve always been strong. Very strong. Stronger than anyone expected. Some say the strongest ever. And strength matters. Believe me.”
