‘It’s so scary having this TV dude in charge’: Pete Hegseth just had a full-blown meltdown over accountability in the Iran war

As the United States is on the brink of war after attacking Iran, following the formation of an alliance with Iran, the last thing Americans, already pissed off by recent developments, would want to hear from the people leading these attacks is that they have no answers. Wait, that’s not it. Not only do they not have answers, but they are also actively deflecting questions about the topic and undermining its impact on the American people.
To discuss the US’s activities in Iran, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, on March 2, 2026, held a press briefing alongside Joint Chiefs Chairman General Dan Caine. A specific section of his briefing was dedicated to taking questions from journalists present, but unfortunately, he didn’t answer most of them. I mean, he did, but he didn’t, in the sense that he mostly avoided them and instead focused on things he wanted to say that were nowhere near what the questions demanded. As anticipated, most of them comprised a bit of Trump appreciation, because he cannot help it, can he? Trump worship was probably part of his employment letter, and he seems to be doing a good job so far, but at what cost?
Pete Hegseth loses his cool over an Iran-related question
Despite being present at the recent briefing to address the ongoing tensions in Iran and US involvement, and inviting the press to ask questions on the topic, it seemed Pete Hegseth was not ready to provide answers. As mentioned previously, he employed serious deflection tactics to manoeuvre himself out of difficult situations when addressing questions about Iran.
In a specific moment from the briefing, which is going viral on social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), Hegseth can be seen exhibiting slight hostility towards a reporter who asked him a question he probably did not anticipate. She simply asked something the American people wanted to know: what the men and women who were going to war were going for, as in what the long-term goal was. Additionally, she wanted to know, on behalf of the American people, whether the ongoing situation in Iran could spiral into something larger, creating tensions in the US. As the journalist finished asking her question, Hegseth seemed both angry and disturbed, and responded with a disgruntled tone, saying, “Did you not hear my remarks?” He then continued, saying, “I mean, we’re ensuring the mission gets accomplished, but we are very clear-eyed, as the president has been, unlike other presidents, uh, about the foolish policies of the past that recklessly pulled us into things that were not tethered to actual clear objectives. Um, so we know we have plans, we have generals, we have a chairman, we have commanders, sentcom commanders, Admiral Cooper, who’s executing very deliberately to ensure outcomes that I laid out are accomplished.”
Donald Trump is no better than Pete Hegseth when it comes to the US/Israel and Iran war
While Pete Hegseth, during his recent press briefing on the US activities in Iran, glitched momentarily after being held accountable by a reporter, Donald Trump wasn’t too far off. The only difference is that in Hegseth’s case, it was another person who caused it, and in Trump’s case, it was he himself.
For those unaware, Trump recently participated in the Medal of Honour ceremony, where he briefly spoke about Iran and the US soldiers who were martyred during the US’s attacks on Iran. However, he only spoke about them up to the point when he started sounding like a person with empathy, but before that could happen, he shifted focus and started talking about his ballroom and the drapes he apparently picked earlier.
