‘I would argue she deserved it’: ‘Racist’ Trump stooge Laura Loomer gets shown her place by a journalist during foreign trip

On March 14, 2026, Trump loyalist and conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer appeared at the India Today Conclave 2026 in New Delhi, India. While there, she mostly discussed the growing friendship between the United States and India, but was taken aback when she was repeatedly confronted about her past racist comments directed at the people she was sitting in front of.
A moment from her presence at the event that is gaining significant traction online, especially on X (formerly Twitter), is when Rajdeep Sardesai, an Indian journalist, confronts Loomer over her past comments about Indians and her remarks during the event about Indian Muslims. Addressing her remarks about former United States Vice President Kamala Harris, Sardesai called Loomer a racist and deemed her comments unacceptable to him as an Indian. He also called her Islamophobic for spreading anti-Muslim rhetoric during the event, vilifying them and painting them as aggressors.
Indian journalist Rajdeep Sardesai clocks Laura Loomer
Soon after, Laura Loomer apologised for some of her earlier social media posts about Indians that had racist undertones at the recent India Today Conclave, she was confronted again for exhibiting similar behaviour. From the audience, India Today senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai emphasised that Loomer’s apology regarding her past racist posts was not sufficient given the extent to which she had hurt Indian sentiments with her remarks.
Talking about the time Loomer made a post about 2024 presidential nominee Kamala Harris, Sardesai said, “You made a statement that if Kamala Harris wins, the White House will smell like curry and speeches will be facilitated via call centre. You then went on to say, “Our country was built by white Europeans, not third-world invaders from India.” I think you should do more than just express regret. From what I can see, you’re brazenly racist and Islamophobic. And I’m sorry to say that we have Atithi Devo Bhava (The Guest is God) in this country, where we welcome all, but your comment smacks of anti-Indianism, worse still islamophobia and even worse racism, which has no place, ma’am, in today’s world. So get real, ma’am. Sorry to say that, but that comments are unacceptable to me as an Indian and as a world citizen.”
Laura Loomer calls Islamophobia a hoax
One word you can most definitely expect to hear from Trump’s followers is “hoax.” They use this term to describe everything they don’t have answers to, and most of the time, it doesn’t make sense. So, when Laura Loomer was called racist and Islamophobic by Rajdeep Sardesai, she once again relied on this familiar word to dismiss him.
Addressing Sardesai’s remarks, Loomer said, “I will say that I don’t believe that Islamophobia is real. I believe Islamophobia is a hoax. It is a term that is used to make people fearful of speaking out about their own survival…And it is not irrational to fear an ideology that explicitly calls for the killing of non-Muslims…Everybody who is not a Muslim should really, honestly be fearful of this ideology that explicitly calls for their removal from this planet, their eradication. And so if you have a sense of survival, I think that it’s perfectly normal to be fearful of Islam.” Shooting down Islamophobia by propagating even more of it is probably not the smart move she thinks it is!
