‘I did warn you all’: Obama reminds everyone that he cautioned against Trump before his re-election, but they ignored

On Sunday, the former President of the United States, Barack Obama, made a rare appearance at a rally in Norfolk, Virginia, to support Abigail Spanberger, the Democratic nominee for the 2025 gubernatorial elections in Virginia. While Obama strongly endorsed Spanberger in his speech, he also took the time to discuss the current American experience under the Trump administration, which is not looking particularly bright.

As Barack Obama criticised Donald Trump and his dictatorial tendencies, he humorously remarked that he had warned the public about the possibility of such a situation arising. However, he also acknowledged that he did not expect things to spiral out of control as they have. He stated:

“It is not as if we didn’t see some of this coming. I will admit it is worse than even I expected, but I did warn you all. I did. You can run the tape. “

Additionally, Obama highlighted that Trump had explicitly stated what he would do after taking office, yet people voted for him and his Republican allies anyway. He pointed out that these voters had not intended to give up their “right to free speech” or witness their “public health systems being dismantled”; they were simply “frustrated” with inflation, rising gas prices, and the “struggles of affording a home and concerns about their children’s future,” which is completely understandable. Obama went on to emphasise that although people voted for Trump, hoping to change these issues, after nine months, they should reflect on whether any improvements have been made, while noting that things have certainly improved for Donald Trump and his family.

Many individuals who witnessed Barack Obama’s remarks about Trump and his supporters on social media platforms, where clips from the event were shared, expressed their opinions on the matter. The discussions were particularly heated on X (formerly Twitter), where a significant number of users criticised Trump. One user wrote:

“Truth be told, Trump is only interested in keeping his billionaire friends and the high class afloat. The rest he just sees us as shit on the bottom of a boot.”

Another person wrote:

“Even after listening to this truth and logic, a lot of folks will still vote Republicans because their ideology and racism is stronger than their self and national interests.”

Several others echoed similar thoughts as they continued to criticize Donald Trump.
