‘He doesn’t know what day it is’: In a weird moment, Kash Patel vows to capture suspect behind the National Guard shootings, while he’s already in custody

Kash Patel seems to finally be feeling the pressures of his position after neglecting his responsibilities as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation for months under the Trump administration.

Amidst rumours that he is close to being fired, Kash Patel, during a press conference yesterday, awkwardly told reporters and others gathered that his department was working hard to identify those responsible for the recent shootings of two National Guard officers. However, the person truly responsible had already been identified by the authorities and withheld. His name is Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan immigrant. In fact, he was granted legal asylum in the United States by Donald Trump himself, following due process of law.

Kash Patel’s claims of having arrested someone who was already in custody highlight the workings of the party he represents, which relies heavily on empty promises, lies, and blame-shifting. Once upon a time, people like Patel used to excel at these tactics, but lately, his efforts seem less effective for reasons that are becoming more apparent, even to supporters of the Republican Party. The incident has sparked considerable discussion on social media platforms such as X (Twitter), where one user commented:

“He doesn’t know what day it is , never mind what happened with suspect.”

Another person, noting an unnatural pattern in Kash Patel’s comments, stated:

“Kash Patel is an agent of confusion and chaos. He said they’d prosecute those responsible even though the shooter was a lone gunman, the shooter was shot, the shooter is in custody and there’s no other suspects. Much healing and comfort to the National Guardsmen.”

Many others shared similar criticisms of Kash Patel, viewing his recent actions as a sign that his time in office is over. That said, many Republicans tried to show their support for Patel by defending him, suggesting he probably didn’t have the information about the accused being arrested. However, others jumped into the discussion and refuted that theory, arguing that Patel was present on the ground when the FBI was trying to apprehend the suspect, so it’s hard to believe he didn’t have knowledge.
