Good news for everyone still eagerly awaiting their Hogwarts acceptance letter: Jam City and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment Portkey Games have released their free-to-play mobile game, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, on Android and iOS devices today. This marks the popular franchise’s first entry into the world of mobile gaming, with a story-driven adventure RPG that allows you to play as a Hogwarts student.

The game is set in the mid 1980s, after Voldemort has been vanquished but before Harry Potter enrolls at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Players can design their student avatars, join a house, attend classes, and master spells. As they move along in the game, players can forge alliances with friends, explore unseen rooms in the castle, and even duel their enemies.

Chris DeWolfe, co-founder and CEO of Jam City, said, “There are so few moments where a mobile entertainment company has the chance to truly bring magic into the world and we’ve been thrilled by the amazing response our game has already received from Harry Potter fans everywhere. We at Jam City have been working hard to ensure that any aspiring witch or wizard can enter Hogwarts through their smartphones and tablets and begin their magical journeys.”

The mobile game also features actors from the film series reprising their signature roles, including Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall, Warwick Davis returning as Charms Professor Flitwick, Sally Mortemore as the librarian Irma Prince, Gemma Jones as Madam Pomfrey, and Zoe Wanamaker as Madam Hooch. “Being involved in the making of the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game will give great pleasure to my grandchildren,” said Dame Maggie Smith.

Players will also interact with some original game characters like Penny, a popular Hufflepuff potions expert, Tulip, a rebellious Ravenclaw prankster, and Merula, a Slytherin with a dark past. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will also feature classic Potterverse locations like Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
