Georgia Black McDonald’s staff was allegedly barred from outlet over her hair style: ‘Made me go home’
The rules got tangled

Getting sent home from work over hair color seems like an extreme response, especially at a fast-food restaurant. However, one Black McDonald’s employee in Georgia claims that is exactly what happened to her. Instead of finishing her shift, she found herself searching for a way to meet her workplace’s expectations.
Employees are generally expected to follow dress codes, but rules about personal appearance can become controversial. Hair has long been a sensitive issue in workplaces, particularly for Black women who have faced discrimination over their natural hair. This worker’s experience raised questions about how far employers should go in controlling someone’s appearance.
TikTok creator @ykluhslim shared what happened after she was allegedly sent home from a McDonald’s in Georgia because of her ginger-colored braids. Rather than giving up on her shift, she turned to her aunt for help. Her video has attracted more than 301,900 views.
She wasn’t done just yet
In the video, the employee shows her ginger braids before revealing that she is shopping for a wig. She explains that her workplace had sent her home because of her hair. “At the store right now because they made me go home cause of my hair,” she tells viewers.
Fortunately, her aunt was available to help. The footage shows the two finding a solution that would allow the employee to return to work without changing the color of her braids.
The worker eventually puts on a black wig with her aunt’s assistance. She then announces that she plans to head back to her shift. “So guys, I’m gonna put it on and go back to work,” she remarks.
The employee’s experience sparked a conversation about restaurant grooming requirements. Several viewers questioned why her hair color was enough to send her home.
One commenter pointed out an irony involving the company’s famous mascot. “ginger is a natural color and Ronald Mcdonald has red hair THEY TRIPPIN,” the viewer wrote.
Others shared their own experiences working at the fast-food chain. One person claimed that hair color had never been an issue at their location. “I seen every color on earth at my McDonald’s,” they commented.
A former employee also questioned the restaurant’s decision, arguing that workers should have more freedom over their appearance. “McDonald’s do not pay enough to have say so over anyone’s hair color,” the person wrote. “I worked at McDonald’s for many years when I was younger with red hair & tattoos.”
Some viewers were particularly surprised that the employee had been sent home rather than simply asked to change her hairstyle before her next shift. “Girl they can’t do that it’s MCDONALDS,” one remarked.
Several commenters also raised questions about whether the incident could involve hair discrimination. “That’s against the law #crown act,” one viewer claimed. Another encouraged the worker to seek legal advice, writing, “Talk to a lawyer.”
The CROWN Act is intended to address discrimination based on hair texture and protective hairstyles associated with race, including braids, locs, and twists. However, protections vary by jurisdiction, and restrictions on dyed hair colors are not automatically unlawful.
Meanwhile, the creator indicated that she wasn’t planning to let the matter go without addressing it. Responding to a comment, she wrote, “I’m knowing but imma say something when I go back in.”
