The Mary Sue’s Jamie Jirak talked to director Sébastien Vaniček about the new movie. They touch on the themes, adjusting to the United States, and of course the bloodshed! We had to ask about the French influence on the film. The filmmaker said that was just a case of writing what you know.

“I wrote a character that I feel comfortable writing,” he admitted. “It’s like I know this character. I wouldn’t be able to write a 50-year-old guy from Texas or whatever. I wrote a French woman in her 30s, and these are the characters I know.”

“She’s at the center of the movie, so of course she’s bringing this French vibe. It’s not just about putting French stuff in for free in the movie,” Vaniček added. “It’s because everything is saying something about the character. So, that’s basically how I wrote the movie. And, then when you have to direct it, you bring all of that.”

Evil Dead Burn Cast Shares Gross Stories

The Mary Sue had to talk to Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, and Souheila Yacou about the harrowing experience of bringing Evil Dead Burn to life. Jamie Jirak joked that the film really put this trio through “the wringer.” And, it was really fun to see the actors become aware of that phrase in real-time.

Still, it was no laughing matter when you’re sitting there performing these physically demanding sequences. Hear what the cast has to say right here!

“Specifically at the end of the shoot, I was so exhausted,” Yacou told us. “I really loved it. And, I’m the actress that loves to go till the last emotions. Flirting with the real craziness, sadness, of myself. And, Sebastian (the director) also likes to push us till we’re in that place. So, I love going there and I love trying.”

When talking about the process of becoming a Deadite, Buchanan had a lot to say. Luciane reflected on how it felt to let go and be truly despicable during Evil Dead Burn. It’s not an opportunity a lot of actors get to experience. And, it’s clear she relished it.

“Oh, it’s freeing!” She began, “Freeing completely. It’s just teasing them and like that was my motive coming back through that door. It was just like, ‘You left me in the car, huh?’ I’ll make you pay! You know?”

We also had to ask about favorite moments from the film overall. There are some pretty gross moments in Evil Dead Burn. But, a scene with some false teeth really ended up taking the cake.

“Oh yeah, probably Pauly’s dentures were fun to play with,” the cast joked about Maude Davey’s character. “They filled my mouth with egg whites!.. So it was and then there was all she had like a fake fum and then fake teeth on top. So, she had layers in her mouth. It’s a great way to know your co-star.”
