Sigh Of Relief: Dylan O’Brien Says He Hasn’t Been Approached To Play Spider-Man

No offense, Dylan.

It’s okay, Spider-Fans—the rumors aren’t true (yet). Teen Wolf and The Maze Runner star and white dude Dylan O’Brien says that he hasn’t been approached to play Spider-Man in Marvel’s Phase 3.

Speaking with BuzzFeed, O’Brien confirmed that he hasn’t even auditioned for the role. “Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it,” said O’Brien, though he has seen the rumors online and apparently his friends from Jersey are hounding him about it. Though he says he’s always wanted to play Peter Parker, he’s trying not to get too excited about it

“It makes me feel bad,” O’Brien said, “because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation.” There are, however, a large number of fans (myself included) who—though O’Brien is a solid actor and would no doubt make a good Spidey—would prefer to see an actor of color fill the role in the new franchise. Even though it’s likely to be Peter Parker Spidey and not Miles Morales, there’s absolutely no reason that Parker couldn’t be played by a minority; in fact, Parker’s story in 2015 makes much more sense as, perhaps, an Asian kid in NYC than a Dylan O’Brien.

Who would you like to see play Peter Parker in Civil War? Let us know in the comments!
