Disney is adapting The Merlin Saga, a series of books by T.A. Barron, into a movie. Producing is Life Of Pi‘s Gil Netter and Philippa Boyens will be writing the script. Philippa Boyens, whose work on The Lord Of The Rings franchise landed a shared Oscar in 2002, is clearly suited to this genre and I’m excited to see her work on this project.

T.A. Barron has also been sharing news about a potential movie adaptation for a long time (his first blog goes all the way back to 2012). He seems very involved and his consistent enthusiasm will no doubt please fans of the book series. Barron says that they’ve been “very inclusive” of him and he “couldn’t be more excited.”

Deadline notes that Warner Bros. recently completed production of Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur: Knights of the Roundtable (AKA smoldering Charlie Hunnam wields a sword), but the two will likely have very different takes on the medieval setting. Are you excited to see Barron’s young Merlin come to screen?
