Denmark will be adopting a strict ‘shoot first’ approach if Trump attacks Greenland

In early January, the United States conducted an operation and abducted the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, on grounds of narcoterrorism. While Maduro is being tried under US law at the moment, Donald Trump and members of his administration have made it clear that after Venezuela, the U.S. has its eyes on other countries. Some of these include Cuba, Greenland, and Iran.
Over the past few days, Donald Trump has been making headlines with his comments about Greenland, particularly his interest in acquiring it, asserting that it is important for national security. Although there is no evidence to support this claim, as per an article by the BBC published on January 10, 2026, Trump has stated that it is vital for the US to secure autonomy in Greenland, as other nations are trying to do so, highlighting that Russia and China have their ships “all over the place.”
On Friday, while addressing the topic of Greenland, Trump provided insight into his thought processes concerning Greenland, attempting to justify his possible actions, and remarked, “Countries need to have ownership, and you protect ownership, not leases. We will have to defend Greenland.” He also suggested that there was only one option left for the American people if they wanted to realise their ambitions in Greenland: they could either take the “easy way” or the “hard way,” hinting that using force was a viable option.
In response to Trump’s ambition to acquire Greenland, the territory’s inhabitants, including those in leadership roles, along with the Danish people, who partially govern Greenland, have issued warnings against Donald Trump and the United States if they try to disrupt the peace of the residents.
A viral post currently making the rounds on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), claims that Denmark has instructed its military to open fire if America attempts to invade. The post also references the newspaper Berlingske, which has reported that the military has been advised to resist any attempts by foreign nations to take control of Greenland, including the United States, which has clearly stated its desire to do so.
This post has gained considerable attention, with many individuals sharing their views. While the majority have expressed support for Greenland and Denmark, believing they have the right to defend themselves against outsiders like the United States, some argue that Greenland rightfully belongs to the US and should therefore be annexed and taken control over. This latter group is predominantly MAGA supporters. No surprises there, really!!
