‘Hawk-Girl Summer’: DC Announces Another Summer One-Shot With the Perfect Title
There are a few constants from seasons to season: changes in the weather, new trends, and some sort of themed one-shot released by DC. Based on new details from the publisher, their summer-themed entry is about to be especially great.
On Friday, as part of DC’s solicitations for July 2026, the publisher officially announced DC’s Hawk-Girl Summer #1. The 80-page special will celebrate the heat of summer with a new collection of stories, which promise to be “your perfect juicy beach read.”
The title parodies the Internet’s years-long quest to have a “hot girl summer”, a term that began to take flight in 2019 among fans of Megan Thee Stallion. It’s the latest delightful pun that DC has used for these kinds of specials: I will always cherish 2023’s G’nort’s Illustrated Swimsuit Edition, and last year’s Kal-El-fornia Love was excellent as well. Even beyond the summer months, we’ve been treated to charming titles such as I Saw Ma Hunkel Kissing Santa Claus, the Halloween-themed Zatannic Panic! and I Know What You Did Last Crisis, and the Valentine’s Day-themed Lex and the City, Harley Quinn Romances, and How to Lose a Guy Gardner in 10 Days.
But with Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl gaining a new crop of fans thanks to Isabela Merced’s portrayal of her in the DC Universe — a role she is expected to reprise in the upcoming movie Man of Tomorrow — the Hawk-Girl Summer pun is hitting comic shelves at exactly the right time. Covers for the one-shot will be brought to life by Guillem March and Leirix.

This isn’t the only interesting tidbit for Hawkgirl fans to find in DC’s July 2026 solicitations, as the details surrounding that month’s Justice League Unlimited #21 confirm another tie to her DCU counterpart. A recent cover for the book showcased a team-up between Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Metamorpho, all of whom were on the “Justice Gang” in last year’s Superman movie. Now, this new solicit confirms that the team is heading into the comics as well, saying in part that: “Guy Gardner has screwed up—and now his Justice Gang is caught in the middle of a war between intergalactic powers to claim the powers of the Justice League!”
DC’s Hawk-Girl Summer #1 will be released wherever comics are sold on Wednesday, July 29th.
