Conan O’Brien turns Oscars 2026 ‘political’, makes pointed remarks on Trump administration and its failure to arrest pedophiles

Since Donald Trump began his second term as President of the United States last year, the political climate in America has become especially tense, and honestly, there are plenty of reasons for this. Since 2025, he has been involved in one controversy after another, repeatedly disturbing American lives and putting them at risk. More recently, Trump has endangered American lives by engaging in a war with Iran that has already resulted in several soldier deaths and will likely cause more if it continues. Additionally, let’s not forget the billions of dollars the US is losing every day fighting this unnecessary war. This money could have been better invested in the American economy to address various problems, starting with, probably, healthcare.
The entertainment industry has also been affected by Trump’s antics, and they are speaking about it very openly. Talk show hosts Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel have been actively criticising Trump after he repeatedly targeted them for simply exercising free speech. Now, former talk show host Conan O’Brien is joining the conversation and weighing in on Trump’s criticism. And what better occasion to do so than during this year’s Oscars?
Host Conan O’ Brien made several “political” jokes during this year’s Oscars
The 98th Academy Awards (Oscars), held on March 15, 2026, in Los Angeles, saw the who’s who of Hollywood gather to celebrate cinema. There were tough competitors in all the categories being presented, but in the end, there were winners and losers, and then there was host Conan O’Brien, who took a jab at all of them. While most of his jokes landed well, eliciting applause from the audience, his more “political” ones, which he warned about beforehand, received mixed reactions and sometimes a delayed response due to their slow-burning effect. Nonetheless, they were snarky, hilarious, and on point.
One of the memorable “political” jokes O’Brien made during the event, videos of which are now circulating on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), is his remark about the absence of British actors from the Best Actor and Best Actress categories for the first time since 2012. Taking this observation a step further, O’Brien said, “A British spokesperson said, ‘Yeah, well, at least we arrest our pedophiles.'” Ouch! I can sense the context of Trump’s next Truth Social post from a mile away.
Conan O’ Brien also took a dig at Kid Rock
Conan O’Brien’s political jokes were few during this year’s Oscars, but they were impactful enough to cause maximum damage to those affected. During a particular segment of the Oscars on Sunday, O’Brien targeted musician and singer Kid Rock, who has now become a beloved figure among MAGA supporters.
Talking about him, O’ Brien said, “Tonight could get political, and if that makes you uncomfortable, there’s an alternate Oscars hosted by Kid Rock. It’s at the Dave & Buster’s down the street.” This is a sharp dig at Rock, who was part of a TPUSA event, which was born out of the MAGA opposition to Puerto Rican singer and rapper Bad Bunny headlining this year’s Super Bowl Halftime Show.
