You could be forgiven for missing season 1 of Diarra From Detroit. The comedy stars Diarra Kilpatrick as an investigator a little out of her depth. After a series of personal setbacks, she begins solving crimes with the help of a revolving cast of characters.

The show is a wicked good time. But, not a lot of people know about it. Diarra From Detroit season 1 aired on BET+. It did have a linear run on BET, but the viewership on that wasn’t as high as it could have been because of the state of basic cable in the 2020’s.

Still, according the network, those numbers were good enough to renew it for a season 2. It was the top new cable series among Black viewers for 2025 according to Nielsen’s numbers. Along with Kilpatrick, Bryan Terrell Clark starred with DomiNque Perry, Jon Chaffin and more.

As an added bonus, this season is on Paramount+ and that means that there will be more eyeballs on Diarra From Detroit. Harlem’s Shoniqua Shandai and Dave Z Martin also join the party for the show this time around.

So, things are definitely moving in a positive direction for Kilpatrick and the show in general.

Diarra From Detroit Season 2 Is Coming With New Comedy

Diarra From Detroit. A BET+ comedy making the jump to Paramount+.
(BET+/Paramount+)

Season 2 of Diarra From Detroit gets rolling on Paramount+ Wednesday, July 29. That first week includes two new episodes. From that point, one new episode airs weekly until September 9. That’s a nice healthy run on the streaming service.

Now, the guest stars might be where even more of the fun is coming from. Cliff “Method Man” Smith, Morris Chestnut, Amber Riley, Lil Rel Howery and more are all in tow for season 2. That means things are going to be hysterical on the new platform.

If you’re not going to believe me at this point, maybe you’ll believe the Tomatometer? On Rotten Tomatoes, critics have Diarra From Detroit sitting at a 100%. Meanwhile, Audiences loved this BET+ original too. Their scores have the series at 91% on the Popcornmeter.

That’s critical acclaim along with mass audience approval. Not much more you could want out of a comedy on TV at this point. But, without a steady diet of viewership, things might not continue past season 2 for our friend Diarra.

So, if you’re looking for something fun to watch this weekend, maybe you can check Diarra From Detroit out. Folks on social media spend all day lamenting the “fact” that there are no original comedies getting made now.

But, when they come out, we have to actually support them. Get conversation going and share our newfound gems with friends. If audiences can do that, then the fresh ideas they crave can keep on coming down the pipeline.

It’s a fact at this point that a lot of streamers are only paying attention to the first week streaming numbers when making decisions. So, if you want original content, settle in for a Detroit mystery. You’ll probably be glad you did!
