Stephen Colbert schooled some Brazilian scientists recently for some well-intentioned, but slightly misguided nomenclature. The scientists recently discovered a new species of spider, which they named Iandumoema smeagol after the Lord of the Rings character because it was “scary looking and lived in caves.” (Which is even better than Dracorex Hogwartsia, the thick-skulled dinosaur.)

This “miffed” the LOTR fan, who went on a nerd rage to explain the difference between Smeagol and Gollum, stating “you don’t discover a venomous snake and name it Anakin, you name it Darth Vader.”
