‘Classic Trump math’: Seth Meyers pinpoints Donald Trump’s weird fascination with numbers following his claims of reducing drug prices by 1500 per cent

Math isn’t one of Donald Trump’s strengths, and it’s quite evident. In the past couple of months, Trump has made some outrageous claims about the percentage decreases in drug prices under his administration, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.
On the November 7 episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, the host highlighted this aspect of Donald Trump’s character and mocked him. During the ‘A Closer Look’ segment in the Friday episode, Seth Meyers pointed out how Trump tends to overstate the extent of the changes he is supposedly making to the American economy. He showcased a compilation video of all the instances where Donald Trump has mentioned the percentage drops in drug costs that have occurred due to his policies. In the montage, Trump starts at 100 per cent and claims reductions of up to 1500 per cent in drug prices as a result of his administration’s efforts. As the video concludes, Seth Meyers, referencing a part of Trump’s speech where he claims, “nobody’s ever seen anything like this,” highlights:
“It’s all very exciting. But the reason no one’s seen anything like that before is (because) you can’t reduce the price of something by more than 100 per cent. If you reduce the price by 100 per cent, that means it’s free.”
Seth Meyers’s comedic take on Donald Trump’s difficulty with math and numbers has gone viral, with clips from the segment circulating widely on various social media platforms. On X (formerly Twitter), one user remarked:
“Classic Trump math! Reducing by 1500%? That’s not savings, that’s paying people to take the drugs!”
Another person said:
“If Trump ever took the challenge from the show “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?”, I’d have money on the elementary school kids. How did Donald Trump ever graduate from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business not understanding basic math percentages?”
Many others shared similar thoughts about Donald Trump and his intellect. This is the same person who governs America, by the way.
