Tennessee woman’s Chime gets frozen. Then they tell her the surprising reason why: ‘You have 30 minutes to reply before I sue’

A Tennessee woman is calling out the banking app Chime on TikTok after she says the company froze her account for more than a month.
In her video, which got over 4,345 views, creator Kerith (@notkerijane) addressed the company directly.
What Happened With Her Chime Account?
“I’m not one to get on this app like this, but I really need TikTok to do its [expletive] thing and get this video to Chime,” she begins. “Because Chime, you have 30 [expletive] minutes before I sue the [expletive] out of you.”
She says she hasn’t had access to her funds for a long time now.
“I want my bank account unlocked now,” she says. “I want my [expletive] money that you have held for me for over a month now.”
The freeze has caused her to get behind on paying bills.
“At this point, not only should I [expletive] sue you for the money in my bank account, but I should sue you, and you should pay all my [expletive] late bills,” she says.
“Fix your [expletive] policy,” she concludes. “Give me my money, or I’m getting a [expletive] lawyer.”
Commenters React
While she turned off the comments on this specific video, she posted similar videos calling out Chime. There, not all responses were supportive.
“No one should be using chime as a primary bank account,” one person wrote. “They aren’t a bank they aren’t insured. They don’t have the same federal regulations as a bank.”
“Ok but chime is unironically a really foolish choice,” another added.
While it’s true that Chime is not a legitimate bank, but rather a financial technology company, it offers all the services you’d expect from a banking app. Many customers rely on it as they would a regular bank account.
Some suggested possible fixes. “Have you tried getting a new ID?” a third wrote.
“It scans and works everywhere else and it’s brand new,” she responded.
As of her latest update, she says she still has not regained access to her funds.
How Did This Happen?
Other Chime users online have shared similar experiences with account freezes. One Redditor on r/chimeofficial said that the company froze their account with $3,000 in it and “is being impossible to work with.”
Another said their account was also frozen, and reported not being able to reach customer support after calling “50 times.”
While Chime doesn’t outline Kerith’s exact situation, it does state that accounts may be reviewed or closed permanently under certain conditions.
“Chime must follow federal banking guidelines and may review an account if it can’t verify your personal information,” the company says.
According to the company, this can happen for reasons like suspected fraud, large or unusual transactions, disputed charges, or verification issues.
Chime recommends contacting its support team to resolve these cases.
