‘Complete violation’: Woman steps into the shower on a Carnival Cruise. Her solo trip goes horribly wrong when she realizes she wasn’t alone in there
She says two workers entered her stateroom for routine maintenance while she showered, then Carnival defended how they handled it.
A solo traveler aboard the Carnival Celebration says she stepped out of the shower and discovered two men inside her stateroom. She had boarded the cruise alone, and her room steward had already finished cleaning for the day. As far as she knew, nobody else had any reason to be there.
Going by the name of LovelyV on TikTok, she said she had returned from the gym and gotten into the shower when she began hearing noises in the cabin. She called out several times to ask who was there but said nobody answered. When she finally opened the bathroom door, she spotted two men through a mirror.
“Why are you in my room?” she recalled asking them. According to the traveler, one of the men explained that they were there to replace a table on her balcony and claimed they did not know anyone was inside. Routine maintenance was apparently underway, but that did not equate to a free pass to enter a guest’s room without permission. Perhaps aside from refreshing the balcony furniture, they might consider refreshing their knowledge of basic privacy etiquette.
She says the workers didn’t immediately leave
The traveler said the situation became even more alarming because she had nothing with her in the bathroom. Her clothes and phone were elsewhere in the cabin, leaving her feeling particularly vulnerable when she realized she was not alone.
She also questioned why the workers remained after hearing the shower and her calling out from behind the bathroom door. According to her account, they did not immediately leave when confronted and instead finished what they had been doing before departing.
The woman then went to guest services to complain. She said staff asked whether she had placed a sign on her door, a response she found frustrating because nobody had notified her that maintenance workers would be entering the cabin that day. Is a sign really necessary when staff is fully aware that the room is occupied? On her way to guest services, she said numerous tables were lined up and concluded that the replacements had also been planned in advance.
It isn’t the first time Carnival passengers have questioned unexpected access to their cabin, with another couple previously demanding answers after employees searched their room. Another guest was left traumatized after spotting “creepy crowd management gear.”
Carnival’s explanation doesn’t reassure her
The cruise ship guest revealed that Carnival later told her that the workers had knocked and announced themselves before entering after receiving no response. She argued that being unable to hear or answer a knock while showering should not have amounted to permission to enter for non-emergency maintenance. That said, they could have informed the guests in advance rather than assuming a non-response to a knock meant consent to enter the room.
“How the f*** am I supposed to respond if I’m in the shower?” she asked in the video. More importantly, she questioned why hearing the running shower or her calling from the bathroom did not prompt the workers to turn around.
The incident rattled the traveler enough that she said she abandoned her plans for the rest of the day because her anxiety remained high. She also criticized the cruise line’s response, noting that staff could not know whether a passenger had previous experiences with break-ins, abuse, or other trauma that could make an unexpected intrusion particularly distressing. Even without those previous experiences, however, stepping out of the shower to find two strangers inside your room would be alarming enough on its own.
She now plans to escalate her complaint once she returns to the United States. Whatever Carnival’s procedure may have been, the traveler made her own position simpler: a routine table swap should not come at the cost of a passenger’s privacy. Unfortunately, this cruise may have been the opposite of smooth sailing.
