Bride’s Sister Couldn’t Attend Her Sister’s Georgia Wedding After Her Water Broke. She Still Had a Surprise in Store: ‘We Will Call Her Ellie’

Being present doesn’t always mean being in the same room. Madison George (@madisonlrgeorge) couldn’t make it to her sister’s wedding in Georgia because her water broke. But being in labor didn’t stop her from delivering a heartfelt message to the new couple, and by the end of it, there was no dry eye in the room.
Liz Roberts was surprised that her older sister still had a surprise in store for her despite not being present. Her newlywed wife, Keana Upshaw, held her hand through the message. Just a minute into the speech, people were already in tears.
“While I’m completely heartbroken that I’m not there for the big day, I hope it’s everything Liz and Keana dreamed it would be,” George said. Already, Liz and Keana were tearing up.
An unexpected wedding gift
“Maybe by the time you hear it, we will have welcomed our second daughter, whom we’ve decided to name Elizabeth Bennett George, named after the two most influential people in my life,” Madison revealed. A gust at the back could be seen covering her face, another had a hand to her chest, and so many more were visibly in tears. Liz herself was already crying.
“We will call her Ellie,” George continued. What made the name even more special was that their father’s name was Bennett. Although social media users were pointing out the Pride and Prejudice reference, it was not meant to hint at the novel’s heroine.
Just a minute into the speech, and so many people were already emotionally charged. But George was able to make a comedic transition.
A heartwarming tribute
“Liz and I were not in the womb together,” George explained. Growing up, she said that she loved playing with Barbie dolls, while her sister stuck to her GI Joe action figures. George wasn’t the sporty type, but on the other hand, Roberts seemed to pick up on sports George didn’t even know existed. While George loved her Juicy Couture clothes, Roberts would rather have Golf Galaxy gift cards for polos and shorts.
“You know what? Now that I think about it, I think I’m sensing a trend. I guess it’s not surprising that we’re standing here today,” George quipped. All of this is to say, they had different preferences and aesthetics. But in the end, Roberts still became her best friend.
George went on to praise her sister for being a selfless woman who shatters glass ceilings while uplifting those around her.
“Liz did not make it easy for Keana, but Keana stayed, and it meant more to our family than you’ll ever know,” George said. She praised Upshaw for meeting her sister halfway and helping her blossom into the person she became.
Even her sister’s wife got roasted
“Keana is not without her red flags,” George said, earning the laughter of the room. She talked about how Upshaw once tried to substitute maple syrup for Crisco in their grandma’s banana bread recipe. George called the offense equal to “capital murder.”
The older sister also said that at one point, Upshaw bought grocery store sushi, got food poisoning, and then went back to the same grocery store to buy the same sushi. To make matters worse, Upshaw doesn’t seem to be a light sleeper—her Hatch Sound Machine often fills the room with red light and bird noises.
“But all of those things, though, are completely ignored when you get to the root of who she is: the most genuine person I ever met,” George said. She thanked Upshaw’s parents for raising a wonderful woman who compliments her sister perfectly. George ended her wedding speech, sending the couple her well-wishes.
But people in the room weren’t the only ones sobbing by the end of it. Social media was a wreck, with many reacting to George’s post on TikTok.
One commenter praised George, saying, “She recorded this during active labor. That’s incredible.”
Another person wrote, “Literally crying in my underwear at 9:10am. That was beautiful.” Many more were touched, talking about how the speech made their eyes blur. Even though George missed her sister’s wedding, her speech made her presence felt.
