Anthony Mackie Set to Star in Jesse Owens Biopic

Bringing a track and field legend to life.

Recommended Videos

Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the upcoming The Avengers: Age of Ultron) is attached to star in a biopic about track and field legend, Jesse Owens with Relativity Media currently in talks to develop the project. This is actually the third Jesse Owens Movie currently in the works, the other two being Race from Focus Features and an untitled Owens project at Disney.

It’s no wonder that Owens is such a popular subject. At the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, Owens won gold medals in the 100-Meter Dash, the 200-Meter Dash, the Long Jump, and the 400-Meter Relay at a time when Hitler had planned on banning black people and Jews from participating in the games, acquiescing only when countries threatened to boycott.  Owens made history by shattering any illusions about Aryan superiority, while also becoming the first American athlete to win four gold medals at a single Olympiad.
