Woman faints on American Airlines flight from Miami to New York City. Then she wakes up and realizes her luggage is missing

A woman who went through a medical emergency while flying solo on an American Airlines flight says she woke up to find her essential belongings missing.
In a video posted to TikTok, which got over 339,200 views, creator Hope (@hopieswrld) says more than $7,000 worth of her belongings disappeared after she fainted on the flight.
Now, she says the airline refuses to take responsibility.
What Happened On This American Airlines Flight?
Hope tells the story in the “put a finger down” format.
“Put a finger down if it’s Thursday night, you’re flying to New York City,” she begins. “You’re going to celebrate your best friend’s birthday for the weekend.”
According to Hope, she was boarding her flight at Miami International Airport when she realized something felt wrong.
“There’s no AC flow on this plane,” she says. “This plane is packed. I’m getting overheated, I’m getting overstimulated, I’m getting lightheaded.”
She says she tried to get up and go to the bathroom to cool down, but the next thing she remembers is being woken up by a flight attendant.
“You fainted in the middle of the aisle,” she says. “People are freaking out, people are screaming. People think you died.”
Hope says the flight attendant let her stay in the back of the plane after that.
“She provides you with ice, she provides you with water,” Hope says. “She lets you hang out back there until you land.”
Then Her Belongings Were Gone
Once the plane landed at LaGuardia, Hope says she went back to her original seat to grab her purse and belongings. But they were no longer there.
“They’re nowhere to be found,” she says. “Where are they? Where’s my bag?”
According to Hope, the flight attendants didn’t know where her things were and told her to go down to baggage claim to see if anyone had them.
“Mind you, though, you had just had a medical emergency on the plane, so you’re not really feeling up to par,” she says. “But you’re freaking out.”
Hope says she spent about an hour and a half talking to American Airlines’ lost and found, and anyone else she could find, but no one was able to locate her belongings.
Eventually, she says she got in touch with local police officers at LaGuardia, who were able to check security footage.
“They see these individuals walk off the plane with your bag, hand it over to somebody,” she says. “They go into the airport bathroom, hide in their items, and they go off into an Uber, off into the sunset.”
Hope says the people shown in the footage appeared to be a mother and her two children.
“So, yeah, you file a police report, and they tell you to go home,” she says. “There’s nothing you can really do.”
She Says She Lost Thousands of Dollars in Belongings
By then, Hope says it was midnight, and she was exhausted. The next morning, she booked a flight home because the trip no longer felt possible.
“I need to get home. I don’t have anything,” she says. “These people have stolen $7,000 worth of items from you, including your ID, wallet, everything.”
That morning, she says she was on the phone with detectives trying to get the information together so they could find the people involved and press charges.
Then she ran into another problem: She had to fly home without an ID.
“TSA is amazing,” Hope says. “They’re able to pull up your information, you’re able to let them know what went down, and they’re able to let you through.”
Hope says she flew home to Miami on a Delta flight and had a much smoother experience. When she landed, she decided to speak with American Airlines to see whether the airline could do anything to help.
“Don’t forget that you had a medical emergency on this flight and your items were stolen,” she says. “What kind of sick world do we live in?”
According to Hope, she tried to speak with American Airlines’ customer service but was told to fill out a form online.
“I’m like, no, no, no. I need to speak to the CEO. I need to speak to a manager. This is outrageous,” she says.
Hope says she is grateful to be healthy and safe, but still wants the people involved to be found.
“At the end of the day, this was all materialistic things outside of my wallet,” she says. “So I’m just happy that I’m healthy and OK. But these individuals need to be caught, and American Airlines needs to be held accountable.”
Commenters Are Appalled
In the comments section, viewers were shocked that the airline allegedly couldn’t identify who took the bag.
“Ummm they can’t find the person based on their seat info?” one user asked.
“it’s always American Airlines :/,” one user wrote.
Others shared the travel habits they use to avoid being separated from important items.
“I always wear a fanny pack with my wallet and documents everytime, on Every flight!” another wrote. “so if anything happens my most important belongings are ON me.”
Another viewer urged Hope to escalate the situation publicly. “Call your local news station they will help you quick!” they wrote.
Hope shared an update in the comments section.
“I also just received an email from american airlines stating there’s nothing they can do because I am responsible for my personal items EVEN THOUGH I fainted,” she wrote.
What Does American Airlines Say About Carry-On Items?
American Airlines allows passengers to bring one personal item and one carry-on, but its liability rules appear to treat those items differently from checked bags.
In its conditions of carriage, the airline says it does not cover “items you carry on the plane.”
While it may seem unfair, that may explain the response Hope says she received. If her purse was taken from the cabin after she fainted, American may argue that it was not responsible for the loss.
But because Hope says police reviewed footage and saw people leave with the bag, this may fall under police enforcement authority.
