The Internet Is Roasting This Couple, but Somehow Every Insult Is a Compliment
This couple somehow inspired tons of strangers to compete over who could compliment them in the most ridiculous way possible.
The internet is usually frighteningly efficient at finding something wrong with people. Somehow, digital creator Isabel Marie and her husband appear to have achieved the impossible: getting thousands of strangers on the internet to start a thread of overwhelmingly positive compliments instead of insults.
The unusual roast took off after Isabel shared photos celebrating seven and a half years with her husband, artist Yereton. Rather than simply congratulating them, social media users became progressively more creative about describing the couple’s remarkably polished appearance and wholesome energy.
The comment section soon transformed into something closer to aggressive complimenting than conventional roasting. People said they looked “eco friendly,” “organic,” “brand new,” and even like “advanced humans.” One commenter perhaps summarized the entire phenomenon best: “You look like health.”
Apparently, Looking Healthy Is Roastable Now
However, even that witty comment was topped by someone saying the couple looked like “earth’s profile picture.” Once the format caught on, commenters seemed determined to find increasingly absurd ways of saying the same thing: these two look like they have their lives suspiciously together. After all, nothing unites humanity faster than a joke that just keeps growing.
“You guys look so clean,” one person wrote. Another decided they looked like people who “wake up to the first alarm,” which might genuinely be one of the highest compliments available to an adult.
Others went even further. The pair was described as “trusted adults,” “FDA approved,” “gluten free,” and “vitamins in human form.” Someone declared them “Human race ambassadors,” while another suggested they looked like “a successful plan A.”
Apparently, even their hypothetical administrative skills look immaculate. “People who actually read the terms & conditions,” one commenter wrote. Another somehow went even more specific: “Their emails always find the person well.”
There may not be an official award for looking like you’ve never ignored a Terms and Conditions checkbox in your life, but these two have apparently won it anyway.
The Comments Somehow Keep Getting Nicer
Part of what makes the roast work is how consistently Isabel’s online presence fits the joke. Aside from being a wife, her Instagram bio identifies her as a digital creator, founder of Get Well With Isabel, co-founder of Fra Mundo, and mother. Her husband’s profile similarly identifies him as an artist and “Gia’s dad.”
With the digital space saturated with online issues like cyberbullying, this couple served as a nice cleanse from all the toxicity.
The internet continued to comment on the duo’s anniversary post as though it had encountered the factory settings for functional adulthood. “Yall look like the people in the picture frame when you buy it,” one commenter joked. Then came someone who joked that “They don’t argue. They discuss,” as though married couple fights simply haven’t found them yet.
Another social media user called them “the most human humans to ever human,” complete with “adam and eve core.” Another simply concluded: “They look like a yes.”
Perhaps the sweetest backhanded compliment came from someone who wrote, “You both look like everything is going to be okay.” At that point, the backwards roasting had reached peak admiration.
Usually, going viral means discovering exactly how creative strangers can become when they have something mean to say. Isabel and her husband somehow achieved the opposite.
