Florida Woman Dubbed “Black Widow” Didn’t Like Her Car Gift, so She Allegedly Spiked the Giver’s Drink the Next Day

A 39-year-old Florida woman is now behind bars and facing serious charges after authorities say she targeted older men on dating apps to extort them for cash. According to Law and Crime, Samantha Adams, who investigators have dubbed the ‘Black Widow’, was taken into custody by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on August 27, 2026, at a shopping center in Davenport, Florida.
The case against Adams is quite chilling. She has been accused of drugging a 69-year-old man she met online just one day after he gifted her a car that she reportedly did not like. The investigation officially kicked off on August 20. The victim, a 69-year-old man who met Adams on a dating app where she used the name Nala, reached out to police because he felt something was deeply wrong following a recent medical emergency.
He had been admitted to the hospital three days prior after a sudden and unexplained incident. When doctors ran tests, they discovered he had suffered an overdose of benzodiazepine, a substance found in anxiety medications and muscle relaxers. The victim was adamant that he was not taking any medication that contained that drug, which immediately signaled that something nefarious was happening behind the scenes.
The pair were arguing over a car the man had bought for Adams
According to the arrest affidavit, the tension between the pair started when they had a heated argument over a vehicle the man had purchased for Adams. It seems she wasn’t happy with the gift, and the situation escalated quickly. Shortly after the dispute, Adams allegedly went into the kitchen while carrying her purse, returning shortly after with two glasses of whiskey.
The victim consumed the drink, and the two began to get intimate. However, the mood shifted abruptly when Adams stopped and demanded $1,000 from him. When he refused to pay, she left his home. Later that night, he began to feel extremely groggy before passing out and requiring medical transport to the hospital.
This wasn’t the first time the victim felt suspicious about his time with Adams. The New York Post reports him recalling several other occasions where he felt disoriented or lost consciousness after drinking with her. In one instance earlier in August, he said he became unsteady and fell after taking a shot at her home. During another incident, he passed out in his vehicle while trying to leave her residence.
Perhaps most concerning was an event on August 15, when he felt so groggy while departing her home that he accidentally backed his car into a police cruiser. He insisted to investigators that in all these cases, he had only consumed a small amount of alcohol, making the severe physical reactions impossible to explain without external interference.
Adams allegedly even tampered with the victim’s home security system
The situation was made even more suspicious by the fact that the victim’s home security system had been tampered with. He noted that he had previously seen Adams in the area of his house where the surveillance equipment is kept. As Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd noted in a video posted to Facebook, the behavior displayed here is incredibly calculated.
“She tried to kill him. She tried to overdose him,” Judd stated, adding that she even tried to extort him. He went on to emphasize the danger she poses to the public, adding, “If you meet this woman online, beware. We call her the ‘Black Widow.’ Her motivation is money, and as we have seen with this case, she is willing to go to great lengths to get money — including [attempted] murder.”
When deputies finally caught up with Adams, they discovered she was in possession of a significant stash of prescription drugs that were not prescribed to her. The haul included 19 hydrocodone/acetaminophen pills, two-and-a-half oxycodone hydrochloride pills, nine sertraline pills, one partial Adderall pill, and one partial alprazolam/Xanax pill. It’s clear she had access to a wide variety of substances that could easily incapacitate someone.
She is currently facing a number of charges
Adams is currently being held in the Polk County Jail without bond, and her next court date is scheduled for September 29. She is facing a long list of charges, including second-degree attempted murder, tampering with evidence, offering to commit prostitution, and possession of various prescription drugs.
Investigators have also spoken with another man who reported similar experiences with Adams, suggesting that this might not be an isolated incident. Authorities are currently looking into the possibility that there are more victims who have been targeted by her.
The whole case is a stark reminder to be extremely cautious when meeting people on dating apps, as one can truly never know who is on the other side of the screen. The sheriff’s office is continuing its probe, and it’s likely that more details will emerge as the legal process moves forward. For now, the Black Widow remains behind bars, where she can no longer pose a threat to the community.
