Donald Trump’s New “Lake America” Hats Are on Sale. The Price Is Leaving People Stunned

Donald Trump has turned plenty of his political messaging into merchandise. Now, one of his latest moves has made its way onto a baseball cap—and getting one isn’t particularly cheap.
The new item comes just days after Trump signed an executive order directing the federal government to call Lake Ontario “Lake America.” According to HuffPost, his official store is already selling hats tied to the move, with a price that may make some shoppers look twice.
The merchandise arrives as critics continue to push back against Trump’s “Lake America” order. That opposition hasn’t kept the phrase from spreading, though, and now supporters can wear it too.
So, What’s the Deal?
Trump’s official online store is selling the “Lake America” hat for $55. The one-size-fits-all adjustable cap comes in red and blue, with “LAKE AMERICA” across the front. An American flag appears on the left side, while “45-47” is stitched on the right.
The product description leans into the executive order behind the merchandise. “All it takes is a good pen to make the Great Lakes greater,” it reads. The description also calls the high-crown style a “presidential favorite” and says “Lake America” represents “the unlimited potential of what is on the horizon.”
The $55 price doesn’t include shipping for smaller orders. Customers have to spend at least $125 to qualify for free shipping. Otherwise, shipping adds another $10, meaning someone ordering only one of the hats could end up paying $65.
That also puts the hat above the price of several pieces of official sports merchandise. A fitted Major League Baseball on-field team hat can cost around $50, making the “Lake America” version about $5 more. It is also roughly $15 more than some National Basketball Association snapbacks and $8 more than an adjustable National Football League team hat.
The store is also telling customers they may have to wait for their orders. A notice on the product page claims the hats are experiencing “high demand” and asks buyers to allow 10 to 15 business days for shipping. The notice doesn’t reveal how many hats have actually been sold.
Trump signed the executive order on Aug. 27 amid an ongoing trade dispute with Canada. The order directs the U.S. government to use “Lake America” in place of Lake Ontario, a body of water shared by the United States and Canada.
But the order doesn’t mean everyone has to adopt Trump’s preferred name. The president can direct federal agencies to use it, but he cannot require Canada, private businesses, or other organizations to do the same. That leaves the familiar Lake Ontario name in use outside the federal government’s reach.
Some major platforms have nevertheless made the change for Americans. Apple Maps began showing “Lake America” to users in the United States, while Canadian users continue to see Lake Ontario. Google Maps has also adopted the new name for users in the U.S.
The renaming came as tensions between Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney escalated over trade. Trump has accused Canada of taking advantage of the United States and connected his decision to rename the lake to that dispute.
After trade talks between the two countries broke down, Trump imposed 50% tariffs on certain Canadian goods. Carney, in turn, promised Canada would respond “dollar for dollar,” adding another point of tension between the neighboring countries.
Trump has now taken the phrase from an executive order to his merchandise lineup. For supporters who want to wear “Lake America” themselves, though, the hat alone will set them back $55—and potentially $65 once shipping is added.
