Texas Roadhouse Servers Are Allegedly Spitting In Black Diners’ Food. Company Responds: ‘We Are Investigating’
Texas Roadhouse said it was a hoax.
Texas Roadhouse is currently facing scrutiny after a post shared in a Facebook group claimed that their servers are intentionally tampering with Black customers’ orders. The unverified post has since gone viral, prompting the steakhouse chain to issue a statement denying allegations of discrimination and investigate the issue.
The allegations resulted from a screenshot of a post made by “Nancy Smith” in the Facebook group “White and proud,” where she supposedly told Black members of the group that servers are spitting on and touching their food before it’s served. It remained unclear when the post titled “To all you blacks in here keep this in mind” was originally published.
“Hope you enjoy your meal next time you eat out. There is a Facebook group that I am part of and it is for white servers. We have come up with a plan,” Smith said in the post. “When a table of black diners comes in and places their order we walk back to the kitchen to get your food when ready. There is ALWAYS a blind spot in the kitchen and we are licking our fingers and touching your food.”
Servers allegedly planned the food tampering
Smith then claimed that the food tampering was happening at Texas Roadhouse and Logan’s Roadhouse, with the staff allegedly aware of the “plan.” Smith said, “If it happens to be a Texas Roadhouse or Logan’s, those rolls are full of our white saliva. Some of the cooks are in on this too. Think they are playing. They aren’t.”
Smith concluded her post, saying, “Believe me, this has been going on since y’all started this nonsense with Karamello the candy bar Anthony crap. Btw, the group has over 400k members. Enjoy y’all’s food.” Aside from Smith’s post, no other evidence was shared to back her claims on the servers’ behavior.
While the post seemed to be no longer available on the group page, the screenshot continued to circulate across social media and gain traction. A video addressing Smith’s post by Sannie Yeanay (@sannieyeanay) on TikTok had accumulated over 2.1 million views and more than 502,000 reactions.
“Sounds like a class action lawsuit towards Texas Roadhouse,” one commenter wrote under Yeanay’s video. Another commenter said, “It’s not just our food. It’s medical racism as well.” This isn’t the first time food tampering has become a topic of discussion, as incidents like these can also happen with food deliveries.
Texas Roadhouse says allegations were a hoax
On Aug. 23, Texas Roadhouse issued two statements through their TikTok account denying any of Smith’s claims. In their first post, the company highlighted their guidelines for staff conduct towards Texas Roadhouse customers. “At Texas Roadhouse, we are committed to creating an environment where every guest is treated with respect and unreasonable hospitality,” the company said.
“We do not tolerate discrimination, harassment, or mistreatment of any kind, and we expect our Roadies to treat every guest with dignity and care,” Texas Roadhouse added. “Our commitment to the communities in which we serve remains unchanged: provide Legendary Food, Legendary Service to every guest who walks through our doors.”
In their second post, Texas Roadhouse shared that they were investigating the issue: “We are aware of the video that is being shared with an accusation that has been made towards our restaurants. We believe it to be completely unfounded and we take every accusation toward our brand seriously. We are investigating this alleged abhorrent behavior and remain committed to treating every guest with respect, dignity, and the Legendary Service they deserve.”
On Aug. 24, Texas Roadhouse concluded that the allegations were a hoax after conducting an investigation, per Complex. According to the company, they found no credible evidence to suggest the food was tampered with and were “very disturbed” by the accusations made against them. As of writing, the other company named in the post, Logan’s Roadhouse, hasn’t addressed the allegations.
