‘I genuinely thought the vibes were good’: Man ghosts woman mid-date—in her own house. Then she checks her phone, he already blocked her

Being ghosted after the first date is an excruciating reality in modern dating. Having them bail on us during one is just as devastating. One woman was in utter disbelief after her Tinder date vanished out of her apartment without a trace.
Sitting alone in her dark apartment, TikTok creator Eve (@eveeorcutt) recounts the incident to over 13,000 viewers.
“I’m flabbergasted about what the [expletive] just happened and I’m still trying to process it,” she says. “I truly never experienced anything worse than this.”
What Happened During This Tinder Date?
For context, she says she and the man she referred to as “Joe Schmoe” made plans to meet up. Since he wanted to meet her pug, and they were available that evening, they agreed to hang out at her apartment. When he arrived, the atmosphere was fine, albeit awkward.
“He comes over and it’s a little awkward at first. I’m the kind of person to keep talking about whatever,” she says. “I will try to get to know you and whatever the case may be.”
While they were lying in bed, “Joe” excused himself to use the restroom. After waiting for him to take care of his business, she noticed he was taking a little too long, prompting the content creator to investigate.
But It Goes Further Downhill
“So, I get up from my bed, go out in the hallway, and it’s nothing,” Eve says. “There’s no one.”
Then, it dawned on her: the man had disappeared like a ghost into the night.
”I [walked] out of my apartment and [looked] around,” she says. “Nowhere to be found.”
Subsequently, she checked her phone, and what she found sent shockwaves.
“This dude blocked me immediately on Instagram; he blocked my phone number,” she says. “And he didn’t say anything.” At that moment, the incident confused her.
“I thought the vibes were good and they were awkward but that’s just how you get to know someone,” the content creator states. “That’s not how to handle the situation if you thought the vibes were off.”
Then, she hatched a plan: she checked Tinder to see if “Joe” had blocked her. When he didn’t, she expressed her anguish by cursing him out. Needless to say, dating has been rocky thus far.
“So, that’s how dating is at 25. It’s not going too [well] right now, trying to keep my hopes up but I genuinely cannot believe that just happened,” Eve concludes.
Viewers Offered Words of Sympathy
“This is [borderline] traumatic. You didn’t deserve that. I’m so sorry,” one viewer commented.
“That’s wild! I’m sorry that happened to you,” a second echoed.
“Ghosting someone literally in their home is psycho [expletive],” a third remarked.
“That’s terrible. You should thank him for showing you who he really is. You dodged a bullet. Btw, any guy would be lucky to date you,” a fourth stated.
Why Do People Ghost After The First Date?
In a world where people struggle with their communication skills, ghosting in dating seems to be on the rise. According to Thriving Center of Psychology, approximately 1 in 4 people have been ghosted after a first date or after a couple of dates. Essentially, it boils down to avoiding confrontation, which Oprah Daily states is an attachment style in the form of avoidant behavior. Those who struggle with these feelings use it as a coping mechanism to deal with conflict and uncomfortable situations.
The ghoster may feel like this is the “safe” option. It’s easier to abruptly cut contact than to brave rejection or hurt the person. On the opposite end, this doesn’t soften the blow for the ghostee. Instead, they’re ruminating on their heartbreak, analyzing many times what could’ve gone wrong until it finally subsides, and they move on.
