Los Angeles Woman uses Ninja Creami every night. Then she sees something crawling inside the cover: ‘I clean it every day’

A woman took a peek inside her Ninja Creami’s lid, only to find something horrifying. Now she’s warning other Creami aficionados to search through the lids thoroughly. 

Social media content creator Arriella Simons (@arriiiixo) said she found a “parasite” of some sort trapped inside the ice cream maker’s unique lid. She told her audience that despite trying to fully take apart the device, she was not able to root out the bugs. 

As of this writing, her post has more than 8.7 million views. But is Simons’ bug catastrophe a common occurrence?

The Ninja Creami bug debacle

Simons told her audience that she makes both dairy and non-dairy ice creams using her Ninja Creami, an ice cream maker with a fast blade that shaves frozen liquids to form smooth bases. 

But Simons, alongside other Ninja Creami users, has noticed an issue with the product. Namely, the lid has some hard-to-clean areas that can develop buildup and, based on Simons’s video, pests. 

The content creator said she and her partner were enjoying two pints of Ninja Creami ice cream. That’s when she noticed a bug on her wooden spoon. At first, she thought that the parasite had wormed its way into her Creami because of an ingredient she used. She checked each of her milks for contamination. Then she went through the ingredients she used for the ice cream.

But after some sleuthing, she realized it was the Ninja Creami lid that was attracting bugs—not her ingredients. 

“There are, like, parasites or maggots or whatever it is, parasites or maggots or whatever it is, literally trapped inside this thing and there is no way,” she said. 

The worst part was that Simons could not take the lid apart to clean it out. Simons and her partner tried to, but they each struggled with the equipment. Later, she told her audience that she soaked the lid in vinegar to clean it. 

Viewers tell Simons to contact Ninja for answers

While many viewers told Simons to simply throw the whole machine away, others recommended a more strategic approach—contacting SharkNinja. 

“Girl I would contact them [and] try to get a replacement,” one viewer said. 

Another commenter said, “Pls just contact the company and demand a replacement!! This is very concerning. There is no way to clean this because their bodies will still be trapped inside& decay in there. You cannot use that again.”

Contacting the company, to many, seemed like the best strategy. But what strategies can current Ninja Creami owners use to avoid a chance encounter with a wriggly, creepy crawler?

Other customers have said that cleaning the Ninja Creami lid can be challenging. For that reason, other Ninja Creami users recommend soaking the lid in warm, soapy water or a vinegar solution. Alternatively, other users have utilized a pipe cleaner to clean out any hard-to-reach areas. 

Other blogs recommend deep cleaning the Ninja Creami lid regularly. The Tasty Travelers, a Ninja Creami recipe publication, says that “The deep clean can help reduce the likelihood of the lid starting to smell, mold, or get insects inside of it.” Specifically, the publication notes that the outer lid can be difficult to clean. But it’s important to thoroughly clean the device to avoid any contamination issues or unwelcome guests.
