5-month pregnant woman agrees to meet her ex-husband at Goodwill. Then she wakes up after being shot six times
The days before something terrible happens can feel completely normal. There may be dinner plans, shopping trips, and regular conversations with someone you know well.
For one woman, those normal days now have a very different meaning. She says she spent several days talking to her ex-husband and checking on him without knowing what was about to happen. TikTok creator Ayanna (@kayla.rpa) is sharing what she says happened before Jan. 19, 2025. She alleges her ex-husband, Jeremy McBride, shot her six times in the back while she was 20 weeks pregnant, causing her to lose her daughter, Iona Dawn.
She did not know what was coming
Ayanna shared the first part of her story on what she says should have been Iona’s first birthday. She says she learned she was pregnant on Oct. 4, 2024, after taking a pregnancy test during a lunch break from work.
About a month later, Ayanna decided to tell Jeremy herself. On Nov. 10, she says they met at Garfield Park, where she told him she was pregnant. “I knew it was gonna be a hard conversation,” she says. Jeremy asked about the father, her relationship, and how she was doing
Ayanna later traveled to Texas and told her family about the pregnancy on Christmas Eve before announcing it publicly the following day. By January, she had held a small gender reveal with friends and learned she was having a daughter.
On Jan. 14, Ayanna says Jeremy asked to meet at his mother’s house, where he was staying. She says he had recently been hospitalized after an acute panic attack, lost his job, and did not look like himself. For the next two days, Ayanna says she checked on Jeremy and asked about his job search. On Jan. 17, they briefly met so he could collect a Christmas present from her mother.
The next day, Jeremy asked Ayanna to dinner. On Jan. 19, she was with her friend Emily before meeting Jeremy at Goodwill. Ayanna says Emily encouraged her to cancel, but Jeremy said he “really just” wanted to see her.
Ayanna eventually met Jeremy at Goodwill. Since he did not have his car, she drove him to her house to collect belongings from their separation. She says he got his things but then came inside and sat on her couch.
After about an hour, Ayanna says she FaceTimed a friend because she did not understand why he was still there. “He’s been here for about an hour,” she recalls telling her. “I don’t know why he’s still here. He got what he came for. Um, what do I do?” Her friend suggested they go shopping, giving Ayanna a reason to leave. Ayanna says she told Jeremy she was getting ready to go.
She says Jeremy followed her through the closet and into her bedroom before sitting on the bed while she stood in the bathroom getting ready and brushing her hair. “That was the last thing I remember before he shot me,” Ayanna says. Stories involving allegedly abusive partners can look very different, with some women describing physical violence and others recounting controlling or emotionally harmful behavior.
Viewers responded with messages for Ayanna and questions about what happened after the video ends. “The fact that you call this Ayanna’s story and not yours even though it very much is proves just how great of a mother you are,” one commenter wrote. Another asked, “So where Jeremy now is he in jail?” Someone else wrote, “I hope he is where he belongs and I hope he was charged for the baby passing too.”
Ayanna’s allegations have not been independently verified based on the information presented in the video. Part 1 ends before she explains what happened immediately after the shooting.
