Man Swaps Seats at Woman’s Request, Then Realizes Her Seat Doesn’t Recline. What Made It Even Worse Was the Airline’s Inaction: ‘This is Crazy’

No one would want to experience the kind of day that @archerhayesofficial (Archer Hayes) had. Hayes shared through a TikTok video that he got into a fight with a woman in First Class on his flight from New York to L.A., who he says acted like a “Karen.” And what’s worse? It happened at 6 in the morning.
Reporting directly from the scene, Hayes mentioned that this woman asked him to swap seats with her. He thought the woman proposed the idea because she wanted a better view, but it turned out that her seat recline didn’t work.
Anyway, Hayes eventually confronted the woman, but as shown in his TikTok video, she wasn’t eager to move. Luckily, she did, ending the drama. One thing to note is that Hayes was quite loud during all this and was standing tall in the passage, but none of the airline staff came to resolve the issue or speak with either party, which some people in the comments also pointed out.
“Where is a flight attendant”
After Hayes confronted the woman, she seemed reluctant, but eventually she caved and moved to the seat she was assigned to. Even a co-passenger who was seated next to Hayes peeped out from his seat and gave his two cents on the matter. “Bro, you almost got robbed, bro,” he said before Hayes said, “You saw that?”
As mentioned earlier, some people in the comments section of Hayes’ video noted the absence of airline authority during the whole scene. One user wrote, “A flight attendant should have taken care of this in 5 seconds.” Another user asked, “Why didn’t a flight attendant deal with that bs.” Having said that, airline staff have been receiving a lot of flak online. A good example is this woman, who complained about a “rude” flight attendant who was saying her name loudly.
Some others showed their support for Hayes, while a few raised questions about the circumstances of the incident. One user said, “Good on you for standing up for yourself bro. Don’t let these people take advantage of you being nice.” Another user questioned, “She woke you up, asked for your seat. You said no. How on earth do we fast forward to you standing in the middle of the plane with her in your seat? How the hell did she get you out of your seat?”
A quick look at Hayes’ TikTok account shows that this isn’t the first time he has been asked to swap seats on a flight. In a video that is pinned to his profile, a woman asks him if he could switch seats with her husband, while Hayes records their interaction.
Although the premise of his two experiences may be similar, the outcomes are very different. In this video, Hayes ends up switching seats and doesn’t raise any issues. In fact, he even gives chocolate to the cabin crew, who were more than happy to receive the gift. However, in the earlier incident, things didn’t end on as good a note.
Unfortunately, Hayes’s experience isn’t uncommon. People ask to swap seats far more often than you might realize. We’ve seen it happen with a woman who was asked if she would give up her first-class seat on a flight to accommodate a child.
